Written by Cecelia and Darryl Everett, supporters of NCLN.   By 17 weeks everyone knew we were having a baby. Family and friends had delighted in our news. We were so in love with our little baby. I wasn't alone.   My midwife couldn't find the heartbeat at my routine check-up. What followed were t...

"In Canada we say we care deeply about women’s rights, and equality rights. Somehow these rights have come to be synonymous with abortion as a ‘woman’s right’. Yet, this so-called ‘right’ continues to result in abortion disproportionately targeting baby girls."

Today is the International Day of the Girl. Let's defend the rights of all girls, including those who are not yet born.

Injustices against women don't just happen in other countries. S*x selective abortion is an injustice facing Canadian girls, imbalancing the birth rate.

"I asked a girl what she thought about sex-selective abortion. She responded: “That happened super long ago, but not now”. After explaining this still happens in Canada and informing her of the absence of a law on abortion in our country, she was really surprised. Again, I asked her what she thought about it. She immediately said it was bad. She said there should at least be some regulation/limit, like after 1 month. After telling her the heart starts beating at 21 days, she suggested that should be the limit. I then explained that before 21 days is a unique human that has never existed before. I asked if she agreed in human rights, which she did. “Then shouldn't human rights apply to all human beings?”, I asked. She agreed and concluded abortion should not be legal. She then gave me her contact info and hopes to come to the discussion group." - uOttawa activists.

Great first day of activism on Friday! We had some fantastic conversations with students about sex-selective abortion in Canada.

"One girl I talked to expressed her concern that sex-selective abortion is something that still happens in our supposedly progressive country. Also, as a biology student, she agreed that after the fetus is 20 weeks old and the brain stem has developed, abortions after that point should be restricted. While we didn't agree on everything, it was encouraging to agree that at least some abortions are wrong and that we need a progressive law to protect the unborn in Canada."
