The aim is to help those interested to become more self sufficient during troubled times I come from a family of gardeners: My grandparent’s backyard consisted of vegetables, chickens, and Nana’s cut flower varieties and some of my fondest memories are from when I wandered their backyard. Their love of gardening flowed down to their children and now me. I still carry on their tradition of going to the shoreline for Bull Kelp in the springtime and I think my garden thanks me for it. I have since added some of my own traditions. Each year we visit the llama farm for manure to boost the soil nutrients and water retention and we are composting the best we can in our small space. I also have found that by feeding Island birds, I not only have found an even greater appreciation for our backyard's beauty, but it has directed me toward bird and butterfly beneficial plants and flowers. All this has led towards discontinuing use of pesticides and using organic plant foods and natural method of pest control. This "obsession" also benefits my children who help me with my garden projects. They really know where a tomato comes from, snitch vegetables from the garden whenever they can, and love helping me harvest veggies for dinner. I find they are much more open to real food when they get to watch it grow. For years I have wanted to share my love of plants and veggies with like-minded, health conscience people... people who want non GMO, chemical free, naturally grown, much loved starter plants for their own garden. This year I finally feel ready. As I get a feel for how it's going, I also intend on moving towards lettuce bowls, herbs, more common veggie starters and possibly selling extra produce, home-made canning, specialty vinegars and dressings, bath products.....
Until then, I am mainly focusing on hard-to-find varieties of heirloom tomatoes, bush/container cucumbers, hot peppers, and Chinese eggplant to name a few. I hope you get to enjoy them as much as I do!
