If your heart is heavy today you are not alone.
Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was k*lled in 1998. This began an important annual recognition of those we have lost to transphobic violence around the world.
Please consider lighting a candle and holding the international trans* community close to your heart.
Trans people have ALWAYS been here. Folks stepping into their authenticity is so courageous, especially with the climate of cisnormativity and misinformation regarding trans folks and their healthcare.
Reminder: when someone lets you into knowing them on a deeper level, that is a huge privilege. Using that knowledge against them is harmful and absolutely disrespectful.
I love you, I see you, your safety matters.
