Back in clinic July 15th!
I am thrilled to be giving you this update. I have returned to Victoria from my time away in Spain 🇪🇸 and am returning to practice next week.
Starting Tuesday July 15, 2025 you can find me at Elements of Health Centre at Shelbourne and Hillside.
I got the teeniest chihuahua pup when I had first moved to Nelson, BC to begin my second year of Chinese Medicine studies.
Somehow even as such a wee pup she loved the kootenay winters, ADORED the kootenay summers, and was the best study companion over all those years in school.
Together we’d fly back and forth between Trail and Victoria, she was always a huge hit with the flight attendants and other passengers.
Occasionally she would join me at a community acupuncture clinic I worked at and be a patient greeter on the lap of whoever was working reception.
We camped, we hiked, we swam. Folks were always surprised that she did normal dog things even though she was so small 🥲
SO many times I was told “normally I hate small dogs but Kazuri is different”.
She was the flower doggy in my dear friends wedding.
She’s the reason I met my baby daddy, by tangling her leash in his legs in the stairwell of our apartment building.
She lived a good life, it was heartbreaking to be away from her during her final days but our decade and a half of companionship soothes my aching heart.
Kazuri, her name meaning small and beautiful.
❤️

Three months in Spain 🇪🇸
In April the chiringuitos starting popping up along all the beaches, it’s calm and peaceful down at our nearest spot and starting the mornings off with a coffee and beach play has been 👌
We had a few visitors from back home which was such a treat and so sweet to see little friends reunite 👯
April 23rd was Dia de Sant Jordi in Catalonia, a festival for flowers and books 🌹
There was a nationwide power outage 💡
Took a few day trips into the city to visit the aquarium and the zoo 🐟🦒
Oh and more time at the beach 🏖️

One month in Spain 🇪🇸
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind, the first few weeks were a bit of a daze with a sleep regression and jet lagged 2 year old who decided to pretty much not.sleep.at.all. (Like 6 broken up hours in a 24 hour period 🫠🫠🫠)
Thankfully we are on the other side of that and have been able to explore our neighbourhood beaches, experience Carnaval, visit a few big tourist attractions, and I have even gone for one (and only one) run since being here.

End of an era and start of a new one.
The stars aligned for me and for some of my colleagues to be at a pivotal point in our lives and practice in January 2025.
It wasn’t planned or expected but decidedly what presented itself.
An opportunity I couldn’t (and didn’t want to) say no to was offered to my family and one (of the many) thing(s) that came from my transition to motherhood is the shift in my priorities between work and personal/family.
(Before baby it was all and only work… so maybe not the healthiest anyhow 😛)
I 🧡adore, 🧡cherish, 🧡love, 🧡am obsessed with my job, my clinic and my patients so it was not a decision I took lightly to close the doors of the clinic (for now) and embark on a new adventure across the globe. (Temporarily ! 😆)
It’s been an absolute privilege to work alongside some amazing practitioners and support the thousands of patients we have in our clinic over the last 5 1/2 years. A dream really.
The one constant we can rely on in life is change, so while this is a big change for me, for my fellow colleagues and for my patients (I ❤️U), it’s not forever and I will be back in the summer equally as excited to see you and support you.
I feel truly truly blessed and thankful for this space and all that it’s provided over the years.
I can’t wait to see what the future brings.
Thank you for being here 🙏

👋Raise your hand if you look at your lover like this when you are ovulating?
During your ovulatory window, typically your s*x drive will be higher. Biology/mother nature knows that ovulation is the time to conceive, so most folks will notice an increase in libido during their fertile window around ovulation.
So, besides feeling a bit more frisky, here some other markers you can look out for:
💦Cervical Fluid: it’s likely, if you paid attention, you would notice changes to your cervical fluid (or discharge) throughout your cycle. It’s common to hear that around ovulation your cervical fluid will/should be a stretchy egg white consistency. If you are someone who does not have cervical fluid (is dry) most days of your cycle, then the few days you notice any increase in fluid (like when wiping or in your underwear) that would be *your* fertile cervical fluid
💦Position of Cervix: your cervix will change position and texture throughout your cycle, so this requires you to get to know your cervix a bit more intimately by feeling it (by inserting a clean, short nailed finger into your va**na) regularly so you would notice if its higher up in your va**na and more soft (during ovulation), or lower down and more firm.
💦Basal Body Temperature: Your body temperature will rise after ovulation (🙏 thanks to progesterone). By taking your temperature each morning you will notice the slight shift in body temp before ovulation and after.
💦Energy Levels: Same as above, in an effort to support procreation and relational connection, energy levels often increase around ovulation as well!

The rabbit hole of fertility information out there is bottomless. Sometimes this feels inspiring as there is always something new to discover or a new method to try, but for most it feels daunting and impossible to keep up with.
A few things you might be doing that I don’t recommend…
🚫Buying the expensive ovulation strips at the drug store
🚫In that same vein… buying the expensive pregnancy tests at the drug store
🚫Looking to influencers (with no medical training) on social media for advice on supplements or lifestyle suggestions
🚫Buying the shiny social media promoted tea or supplement because you keep seeing it on your feed (its not meant to be, its marketing😉)
Peep through a few of the things I recommend to the patients I work with (both in person and virtually), this is a good jumping off point but in no way an exhaustive list. If you are thinking about getting pregnant in the near future, I HIGHLY recommend these two books, they are a great source of information on how to prepare your body and your heart.
These ovulation strips and pregnancy tests are much more affordable and work just as well. If you are testing often, the price point is much much nicer.
And lastly, a few of the supplements I am often recommending to my patients as they work towards their pregnancy goals. Keep in mind, if you have your own individual needs (which… yes you will 😘), you would need more tailored prescriptions for you (for example if you need support with blood sugar or insulin regulation, or nervous system support etc).

Whether you are just starting your fertility journey or you have been on this path for a while, I am sure by now you’ve realized how confusing it can be and just how many different paths can be taken or suggested.
Here’s the basic roadmap I recommend, from the seemingly more obvious ones of having a regular period, knowing and understanding your cycle, knowing when you ovulate and when your fertile window is, to the less talked about ones like the importance of regulating your nervous system and eating enough food to nourish your body to house and grow your future baby.
🩸Regular periods: meaning you have a consistent and regular period that comes within roughly the same time frame (between 27-29 days, for example, or 33-35 days).
⏰Tracking your cycle: getting to know your cycle, understanding the ebbs and flows of your own hormonal system, keeping track of how many days you bleed, when you ovulate, and other symptoms that show up for you.
🥚Knowing when you ovulate: this one is pretty important❗Using tools like basal body temp, cervical fluid, and ovulation prediction strips.
💦Cervical mucus: cervical mucus helps keep semen alive and transports it up to meet the egg.
😴 Nervous system regulation: your mind, body, and spirit are all connected. Supporting your nervous system, especially if your fertility journey is stressful, is key.
🏃♀️Cycle syncing: choosing movement, food, and activities based on where you are in your cycle to live more in tune *with* your body and making decisions based on your internal environment vs. your external environment (like… it’s A-OK to not work out on your period).
🍲Eating for nourishment: nourishing your body, some might even say … eat like you are already pregnant. To support your fertility and eventually a growing babe, your body needs enough food, almost never less. Think frequent eating (like not skipping meals or fasting) and enough fat, protein, and fibre!

I think baby girl might be picking up on mums coffee habit 😅. We love going out for our respective warm bevies, mine being some sort of decaf or tea latte, hers being steamed soy milk. It’s become a regular occurrence because how could I possibly say no to her asking for her tea and banana bread.
She has a few other obsessions as of late, bananas being an ongoing one (where lately we just yell at mum that we want one but then refuse to eat it 🤪) and the other being OBSESSED with Lainey Wilson's Tiny Desk Concert. I cannot tell you how many times we have watched, at this point I feel pretty confident singing those 4 songs word for word whether it's playing in the background or not.
Having a toddler is a trip, but certainly the best one I have been on yet 💕

I had been healthy and active my entire life, so when I started to get sick, it took me by surprise. In my late teens everything started to shift. I had symptoms I was scared to talk about, shame for my body, I was embarrassed and I didn’t know where to turn to for help. No one else seemed to be going through what I was and I felt very isolated and alone.
Over the course of a few years, I visited my doctors office many time, was sent for all sorts of testing, which always came back inconclusive. With nothing tangible wrong with me, there was nothing they could do. My prognosis was living in discomfort and shame for the rest of my life. I was 21. I felt defeated and hopeless and had lost faith in the conventional medicine that, seemingly, had helped me up until this point.
I knew, deep down, that there was something happening in my body, some pattern of disharmony that was making my life miserable. I also knew that there had to be another way. Never having tried any alternative modalities, I’ve never really known why acupuncture peaked my interest. No one I knew had even tried it, let alone had success with it. Acupuncture came out of left field, planted itself in my periphery, and then completely swept my beliefs about health out from underneath my feet.
At my first appointment, I remember thinking why does it matter if I feel cold all the time or what colour my stool is? No one had asked me these questions before and it didn’t seem relevant. However, what I came to realise was, that it was all relevant. From how and where I sweat, to the aches and pains in my body, to my mental clarity and my mood, it was all oh so relevant. This was the missing link. I was looking at each symptom as an individual problem that needed to be addressed and missing the bigger picture. It is all related. This was the moment of pivotal shift for me. Of course I have digestive issues and am anxious all the time, no wonder I have headaches and migraines and feel depressed. There is no thing in my body that is unrelated or doesn’t have an effect on something else. Considering all aspects of the human body and experience, looking at myself as a whole, that was where the change happened.
With the guidance of my acupuncturist, who was also my herbalist, and my own dedication to my wellness journey, the discomfort and shame in my body slowly started to subside. What I had been told was “just the way it was from now on” was no longer. What had been “we can’t find anything wrong with you” was now “these are the patterns in your body that are not functioning optimally and need to be addressed”. My health went from my doctor giving up on me, to the awakening, support,
and empowerment from my holistic health care provider.
And now, that is exactly what I am here to share with you.
A safe, supported, nurturing and empowering journey to your very own optimal healing.
