I Looks like we might be starting to get some sun this summer! ☀️

The effects of sun exposure on the eyes are cumulative and are dependent on the amount of time spent in the sun. Here are something of the short- and long-term risks associated with UV exposure:⁣
⁣
-Sunburned eyes⁣
-Growths around the eyes⁣
-Cataracts⁣
-Macular degeneration ⁣
-Skin cancers around the eye⁣
⁣
So what can you do to help lower your risk of these conditions? When enjoying your time outdoors, following these recommendations to protect your eyes from harmful rays from the sun:⁣
⁣
- Wear sunglasses labeled 100% UVA and UVB protection⁣
- Never stare at the sun⁣
- Water and sand reflects the sun which increases your exposure to UV rays so always stay protected in these environments.⁣
- Wear a hat⁣
- Wear protective eyewear even when it’s cloudy: clouds don’t block UV light!⁣
- Be extra careful in UV-intense conditions. Keep out of direct sunlight between 11AM and 4PM⁣

The World Health Organization estimates that up to 80% of a person’s lifetime exposure to damaging UV radiation happens before age 18. If that's the case, kids must wear sunglasses now.

Sometimes the cornea grows “branches”.

This eye infection is called Herpetic Keratitis and it’s caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus, the same one responsible for cold sores.
This virus will cause you to have a red, painful eye often with light sensitivity and tearing. And is best treated caught and treated early.

→ A thin, superficial, well-branched lesion with terminal bulbs — those tiny dots at the tips that are almost a signature.
