A friend asked me recently, "what is better for you, fresh or frozen fruit?"

She may have expected a short, one work answer, but there is a little more to it.

When you freeze fruits and vegetables, they loose some nutrients.

But, fresh produce that has to travel fare before reaching your grocery store, is often picked before it is ripe, and then allowed to ripen on the truck.

Where produce that is grown to be frozen, it can ripen on the plant as it doesn't have long travel times.

Foods ripened on the plant have a lot more nutrients, than ones that ripen on a truck.

So fresh isn't necessarily better.

Even with loosing some nutrients during freezing, frozen foods start out with more.

So which should you choose?

Take the stress out of it!

Mix things up to get variety.

Do some fresh, some frozen.

In the next 2 weeks, we'll talk more about choosing good produce with the Dirty Dozen and the Clean 15.

I’m looking for 3 women who are ready to make yoga a regular part of their routine.

I’ll personally coach you to develop a schedule that works for you, while teaching you how get the most benefit from the time you spend on your mat.

Yoga doesn’t have to be hard or take hours. You just need the right instruction.

DM me “I’m Ready” to see if you qualify.

Excited for the 3 women I’ll be helping,

Holly

You know by now, that Alignment is sooo important when stepping on your yoga mat.

For the next 5 days, I'm going to bring you a short video that explains the first 5 Alignment Keys that I teach my students.

These are not reinvented. They are the same Alignment Keys that I was taught as a yoga teacher. Things we need to make sure our students are doing.

So what better way to help you, then to break them down, one by one, and give this knowledge to you.

Here is the first video for you:

Be sure to sign up for the Free Online Workshop next Monday, March 29th, at 8pm EDT.
We'll go through these Alignment Keys in more detail, and have a Q&A. (There is also a prize worth $250 for one lucky viewer).

Last week, we talked about our downward dog and how we want to get a nice straight line from the wrists up to the hips, and that we want to begin with our downward dog focusing on that upper body alignment.

Well one of the things that we really want to make sure that we're doing is engaging our abdominal muscles. By pulling the belly button into the spine,

It allows us to support the lower back and prevent it from arching.

That not only prevents injury or damage to the lower back, it also helps us to get that nice straight line from the wrist up to the hips.

If you come into your pose, and you relax the abs, you'll be able to feel the lower back, and what's going on there.

If you pull the belly button into the spine, all of a sudden the back just feels neutral. Nice and relaxed. You don't have that pressure, you don't feel the lower back.

Everything is just kind of connected and whole and everything just kind of feels right.

Engaging the Core, is 1 of 7 Alignment Keys that I teach to make sure you are practicing safely. Not injuring your body. And getting the most out of your yoga practice. Comment "7" below if you'd like to know all 7 Alignment Keys.

I love this quote!

It is so true.

One of the big things we talked about, when I was in school for nutrition, was the concept that prevention was easier than fixing.

Think about it.

Making sure that you are taking care of your knees in your yoga poses, is so much easier than having a knee replacement later.

Share this with someone who needs to hear this.

What is older?

The 45 year old who can't put their shoes on without sitting on a chair, or leaning on a wall.

Or the 60 year old grandmother who is playing baseball with her grandkids?

Age is just a number.

How our body feels is the real definition of old.

So don't think about the number. Stop and notice how you feel as you do your day to day tasks.

Do you feel stiff or sore?

Maybe you have to take breaks more often than you'd like.

Whatever you are feeling, it can change.

You've heard "it's never too late to start taking care of your body".

But what about, "it's never too early to prevent aging aches and pains"

Start now, and you'll thank yourself in 6 months, 1 year, 10 years.

The time is now.

For this week only, Elements Online Signature Yoga Program is 40% off.

Our Story

A karate dojo and a yoga studio. Ok, most people say. Then they find out that the owner and founder is the one who teaches ALL the classes. Then comes the confused look.....oooookay. “How can one person teach both yoga and karate? They are so different. I mean, karate is, well, violent? Isn’t it?”

I get these questions all the time.

While karate is tough, and brings a strength out in me that very little else does. It’s not about being violent. Karate gives me a structured way to learn self defence. To encourage self discipline. I learnt self awareness with karate, long before I ever took my first yoga class.

Did you notice the focus on “self” when talking about karate training? My sensei told me a number of years ago, “we train to better ourselves”. We are tough when we train in martial arts, but we also train to disciple the mind. We place a large emphasis on the importance of breath. Our end goal is to clear the mind and leave the world a better place than when we started.
