Yup just give me that red juice…
This is B12. A form with no preservatives. Short shelf life. The form that our body needs to keep our blood and nerve cells healthy and to make DNA -the genetic material in all our cells.
The best forms come in methyl or adenosyl. Hydroxy can covert to both in the body. Stay away from cyano form if B12 injections. .

I love this diagram. Progesterone begins to decline first in our early 40’s but for some even earlier. Notice the estrogen fluctuations that follow which contribute to our classic “menopause symptom” of hot flashes and night sweats.
But what I really see for women in their 40’s and it’s rarely attributed to hormones due to the decrease in progesterone is joint pain, inflammation, autoimmune disorders, hives, insomnia before periods, menstrual irregularities, spotting, anxiety and depression, headaches, bloating! See someone who will listen and but all the pieces of the puzzle together

Who is profiting in our health care especially when it comes to chronic illnesses. Let’s loudly ask ourselves this. Medicine can work miracles in certain situations and I would never under appreciate this! But when it comes to chronic illness and preventive medicine are we doing enough? Or is there no money to be made in prevention? 👊
We bring in our car for maintenance. Are you doing a maintenance check?
“The Center’s surveys find that only about 40% of patients with diabetes have ever received formal education about controlling their diseases. In our own medical group, an informal financial analysis showed that a diabetes education program would likely be
“financially negative.”

Winter: A time for rest.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the organ system most associated with winter is the kidney, along with the urinary bladder. Winter is linked to the Water element, which stores vital energy (known as “Jing”) and is governed by the kidneys. This is considered a time to conserve energy, rest, and protect the kidney’s vital life force. .

1 tbsp of miso has approximately 7 mg of isoflavones.
Soy isoflavones are plant-based compounds found in soybeans that act as phytoestrogens, mimicking the effects of estrogen in the body. They possess estrogenic and anti-estrogenic properties, and have been studied for their potential benefits in managing menopausal symptoms, supporting bone health in postmenopausal women, and potentially impacting hormone-related cancers and cardiovascular disease.

I’m still shocked by the amount of women that come to see me who are continuously treated for vaginal infections or urinary infections with antibiotics yet no one has talked about vaginal / bladder health. The change of hormones- specifically estrogen, can alter the ph and the tissue which is the driving force of the “symptoms”.
Now … note it’s not just Premarin (Estradiol vaginal cream). You have other options especially our patients nervous about estrogen therapy. We can chat about estriol (weaker estrogen), Hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, sea buckthorn, probiotics etc. .
Our conversation on vaginal health is much much more!!!!!

Alternatives to hormones in menopause with family history of breast cancer?.
The subject of hormones and menopause with a strong family history can be a bit confusing and there is so much to consider. There are so many factors to consider. 🤔. But I meet my patients where they are at. Many are very uncomfortable and nervouse regardless of the new science and I do understand.
Naturopathic medicine has so many advantages here to help treat symptoms and balance hormones with diet, lifestyle, acupuncture, supplements and herbs. Hot flashes can be addressed with herbs and acupuncture and even looking at breath-work. Vaginal dryness can be treated with success with simple tools and vitamins.
And based on the symptom picture, if patients decide to try hormones, I only recommend topical oestrogen and microionized progesterone. we also discuss supplements and herbs to help with detoxification pathways of estrogen, diet suggestions to increase fibre and improve gut health and continue check ins, labs and open conversations. we also discuss the use the lowest dose and best form for the shortest most ideal time to reduce risk.

Options for women with a strong family history of breast cancer… .
This is still a tricky one as most of the studies with hormones were using synthetic hormone using Premarin and progestins. I highly recommend steering women away from those forms of hormone therapy and opt for more “bioidentical” version such as topical estrogen and microionized progesterone if considering hormone therapy. A great book read on how hormones and cancer is called “estrogen matters”. We often also work with the patient to understand estrogen detoxification pathways working with supplements and gut health if they choose to use hormones. It’s a two way open conversation always.
But that being said, many of my patients do not feel comfortable therefore we respect this space. Here we look at options in diet, lifestyle, acupuncture, herbs and vitamins to help manage symptoms and balance hormones.
