In honour of Concussion Awareness Week, we recognize Rowan’s Law, a legacy that continues to drive awareness, education and policy around concussion safety in sport and beyond.

Named in memory of Rowan Stringer, a high school rugby player who tragically died in 2013 from Second Impact Syndrome, Rowan’s Law reminds us of the critical importance of recognizing and properly managing concussions.

Under Rowan’s Law, we are reminded that:

Early recognition saves lives
Open communication is essential
Proper recovery cannot be rushed

As an organization that supports and empowers Certified Athletic Therapists across Canada, the CATA is committed to safer sport, better education and increased concussion awareness.

I am proud to serve on 2 of these committees: Policy and Education.

June is Athletic Therapy Month! This year, we celebrate how Athletic Therapy care is in step with Canadians.

“Then, Now and Always” is a testament to the comprehensive knowledge and consistent drive Certified ATs bring to work with them every day.

Whether it’s on the professional league sidelines or working with elders, no matter where they are, Certified ATs provide care Then, Now and Always.

On the same road, but constantly growing, we are excited to highlight the accomplishments and ongoing work of our members and association.

Happy Athletic Therapy Month to the ones who came before us, the ones who are here today and the ones who will come after us.

Osteopathy is a gentle approach to healthcare suitables for all ages and abilities!

Challenging age and ageism:

The osteopathic profession has long supported healthy aging and community support. This aligns with the Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030) initiative, a collaboration between the United Nations underpinned by the United Nations Agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development Goals and led by the World Health Organization.

The UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030) seeks to reduce health inequities and improve the lives of older people, their families and communities through collective action in four areas:
- changing how we think, feel and act towards age and ageism
- developing communities in ways that foster the abilities of older people
- delivering person-centred integrated care and primary health services responsive to older people
- providing older people who need it with access to quality long-term care.
