In Support Of Children, Counselling Services I teach youth, parents and families effective strategies and coping skills to enrich their lives. My own life experiences are similar to many of my clients.

I remember the people that helped my family, when I was young, and wanted to give back when I grew up. Their support, empathy, compassion, and impact are why I became a Child Counsellor and Parent Coach and ultimately a Registered Psychotherapist. The name IN SUPPORT OF CHILDREN COUNSELLING reflects my passion for working with children and families for more than 25 years. I empower and encourage clients to be successful and resilient. My approach to counselling is rooted in being non-judgemental, kind, and dedicated to each child, teen, parent and family that I work with. Clients feel accepted, safe, supported, and enjoy learning from me. I provide support and education to clients who are dealing with anxiety, depression, loss and grief, ADHD, learning disabilities, trauma and school refusal. I teach children and teens how to cope, manage emotions, and problem solve. I SPECIALIZE IN:

My career has always been rooted in working with and supporting children and their families. I worked as an Early Childhood Educator, Resource Teacher, Parent Educator, and Outreach Worker in Simcoe County for many years before returning to school as a single parent and launching a career as a Registered Psychotherapist. Did you know that, "20% of children in Canada experience a diagnosable disorder" - 's Mental Health Ontario.
I'm happy to announce my new book, "Wise Friends of the Forest" - a culmination of three decades of experience as a , drawing upon my past experiences.
The book is aimed at children between the ages of 6-12, who experience , , , to name a few. It follows Ellie and her friend Gordon as they walk through the forrest and meet many woodland creatures who offer helpful tips to cope. Included in the book is a reusable worksheet where your child can keep a log of the problems faced and how they overcame it for that week - a convenient way to track the progress made.
We as a society need to be proactive about mental health in children and have the conversations early on. If you have a child, grandchild, friend or neighbour that you feel could use some help in a fun way, be sure to pick this up.

As a child, my life was upended when my mom met my stepfather. He was dealing with addictions which created chaos and crisis in our lives. However, I also remember a few people that were a great support over the years. They included the health nurse that made me feel safe and special as well as a few teachers that watched over and encouraged me.

I know these people and my personal experiences influenced my decision to dedicate over 30 years of my life to a profession where I could make a difference in a child and their families life during challenging times.

As many of you know, my name is Wendy Hunter and today I am a Registered Psychotherapist in private practice. My company’s name is called In Support Of Children Counselling and my mission is to support children in every way I can through empowerment and teaching skills that will help them cope and thrive. I provide individual and group counselling sessions with children and teens.

My work also includes providing support and education to parents who are the most influential people in their children’s lives. I provide individual sessions for parents as well as groups. The most recent program that I offer is called Fear-Less by Triple P Parenting from Australia. It is a 6 week program that teaches parents how to support their children who are dealing with anxiety. Many of the children and teens that I work with, struggle with anxiety.

Did you know, that according to the Children’s Mental Health of Ontario (CMHO), data collected shows that 20% of Canadian children experience diagnosable mental health disorders, with anxiety being one of the most prevalent? This is an alarming statistic and our children need specialized help and support so they can learn to cope and manage all of life's challenges. Ref: CMHO.

Parents are human and WILL mess up. We will ALL lose it on our children at some point, but conscious parents will understand the ramifications of their actions, make amends and take responsibility, and do better the next time around--- and their children TRUST in that.
