Today was one of those much needed mental health days.
Lately this week I haven’t had much time to be in the shop, as I’ve been dealing with a lot medical appointments for my mother. Dealing so much with the rollercoaster of emotions all week it never dawned on me; how much I truly needed a day just to be in the studio and draw. I’m typically the person who was raised to bottle my mind and emotions up, so much so that growing up I always had a sketch book to unload in. Well lately I’ve forgotten how much I relied on art as a mental release for my health, and so thankful to have as my new home.

As everyone knows every culture has its own customs when it comes to the winter holiday season, bringing out the assortments of foods, beverages and holiday celebration games. Well one of my favorite holiday drinks happens to be Glühwein which originated from Germany. The word Glühwein directly translates to “glow wine” in English and later converted to what we know as mulled wine today. Some of the oldest documented history of Glühwein occurred as early as 1420, in the form of a special gold plated tankard that belonged to a German nobleman just for sipping this sweet and spicy liquid. The recipe has mainly stayed the same as the early days where a base of red wine is combined with the popular spices of the season and some times accompanied with a shot of rum or liquor.
