👉 The benefits of interpersonal touch have been widely reported, that is - being hugged can lower blood pressure and instill a feeling of care and safety.

👍 But a new study (1) suggests that self-soothing touch; placing your right hand over your heart and your left hand on your belly while focusing on the warmth and pressure of the touch; offers similar stress-reducing benefits including lowered cortisol levels.

🫶 So next time you are feeling stressed or anxious, sad or overwhelmed, take a moment and place your hand over your heart and feel the warmth and pressure of your touch; allow those feelings to steady you, to lessen your burden, to reduce your stress, and bring you a moment of peace and calm so you can continue along your journey.

❓Do you want to start exercising?

👉 Here are a few tips to help you get started:

✅ Start easy. If you haven't been physically active in the recent past, you should ease into your workout routine. Start with 1-2 times a week, for a short amount of time, and at a lower intensity.

✅ Start with activities you enjoy. If you hate cycling, don't start exercising by riding a bike, if you don't like lifting, don't start by hitting the weight room. Instead start with activities that you like doing - maybe that's swimming, or dancing, or walking - only do activities you enjoy at first.

✅ Be realistic. Exercise is part of the long game, and although you might begin to feel some benefits within a couple of weeks, you won't achieve your exercise goals overnight. Exercise in ways that you do for the next 6-12 months.

✅ Exercise for the right reasons. *This one is important.* If you want to be successful, you cannot view exercise as a punishment; exercise must be viewed as a way you show love for yourself. Instead of "I have to workout", reframe your thoughts to be "I get to workout. I get to strengthen my body, I get to refresh my mind, I get to nourish my spirit."

🙌 By keeping these tips in mind you can be successful with starting and sticking to a new exercise routine for 2024.

⚡️Energy is a tricky thing.

👉What you eat will impact your energy, but you can't just eat your way to more energy.

👉Exercise will impact your energy, but you can't just workout to increase your energy.

✅Energy is affected by our physical, physiological, mental, and spiritual wellbeing.

😳Energy is complex.

🫶And trying to increase the energy in your life can feel very complex, and even complicated.

🤫But let me share a secret with you - you don't need to do complicated and complex things to increase your energy.

❤️The secret to increasing your energy it to do some very simple things, things like stay hydrated, get some sunlight, move your body, eat mostly whole foods, visit with friends, learn to rest; if you do these things you will increase your energy.

🤔 Have you decided to set an intention for 2024?

🫶 If you've had a long list of goals and new year resolutions that you haven't kept in the past, you may be skeptical of planning for the future, I get that.

👍 Last year was the first year I set an intention instead of a resolution.

❓Do you want to know what my intention was?

🏋️‍♂️ Go to the gym.

That was it.

✅ Simply “go to the gym"; no specific number of days or specific activity details.

🙌 And since I hadn't set any time or activity goals, when I had to stop going for 2+ months while waiting on some medical testing, it didn't affect my intention.

❤️ The end of 2023 was the first time in my adult life that I haven't feel disappointed with myself at the end of the year; and that is the bigger accomplishment than the habit I now have of going to the gym.

Here's the thing:

👉 You won't feel energetic when you are disappointed in yourself.

👉 Your health will not improve when you place more stress on yourself.

👉 And you can't build happiness in your life when you feel like a failure.

🙌 So if you haven’t already, take some time this month and set an intention for 2024. Make it generic. Make it achievable. And make 2024 the year you start feeling proud of your accomplishment instead of disappointed in yourself.
