Check out this quick tea recipe to help combat your cough.

Another cough... well here is a simple tea to help you sip it away. It's basically a warm, spicy lemonade... This tea is high in Vitamin C (lemon), as well as anti-inflammatory (ginger); making it a perfect combo for cold season! In TCM, pears are said to nourish and moisten the Lungs - ideal for th...

Ministry of Labour of Ontario is going to dissolve the College of Acupuncturists and Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners CTCMPAO and make it an unregulated profession (Bill 88, 2022). That means those who are seeking for acupuncture and herbal treatment can be treated by every single person in Ontario who may never read acupuncture book before. Beside, extended insurance will not cover your acupuncture treatments any more!

This decision is terrible for not only practitioners, but for the general public. Acupuncture is an alternative medicine that not only involves onset practice, but also knowledge of anatomy and rationale behind every practice. In the meantime, herbs may interact with other medicines to make conditions worse if abused. It is important that proper education and examinations are given to protect the general public from harm. Since 2007, acupuncture in Germany has been reimbursed by the statutory health insurance, because the German government even funded the research on the effectiveness of this medicine (DOI: 10.1016/j.ctim.2006.09.005), and anticipated TCM as an alternative medicine can reduce government healthcare spending.

I hope you will join me to stop the terrible mistake the provincial government may make, to allow more Canadians to benefit from Chinese Medicine and relieve from this chronic health conditions in proper and cost effective way. Again, Traditional Chinese Medicine deserves higher regulation, more funding for research, because it has equal efficacy and safety as physiotherapy, Chiropractic and Naturopath, under good regulation.

Stop unregulating Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. 448 signatures are still needed!

The end of 2020 is almost here, that means that 2020 benefits will soon be gone. Don't lose out, now is the time to take a little time to recharge, address the stress (it is 2020...) and make sure you start off 2021 on the right foot.

All COVID precautions are in place. Masks are required at all times and appointment spacing in in place to ensure social distancing and cleaning/sanitization time.

SCRAPING AWAY FEVERS- Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a pressing & brushing technique used in TCM which requires a hard, smooth, round-edged tool (anything from carved jade to a porcelain soup spoon…)

After applying oil to your skin, you can press the edge of your tool against your neck and brush it along the muscles in your neck and upper back.

The translation is Gua -“scrap” & Sha- “sand” referring to the little red blood/petechia marks that appear on the skin as a result of the scraping. The Idea with a cold is to basically "scrape away fever.” You are creating an outlet for the body to release stagnation or unwanted pathogens through the skin. Most commonly, Gua Sha is used to release common colds as well as chronic muscle tension. Think of how tense your body, and upper back, in particular, get when you catch a cold.

BOOST YOUR RESERVES- Stomach 36

Acupuncture nourishes the core of your body and fortifies your Wei Qi to increase immunity. The acupuncture point ST36 (“Zusanli,” “Leg Three Mile”) is located four finger-breadths beneath the knee on the outside of the shinbone. In studies, proper treatment of Stomach 36 increases white blood cell count. Acupressure at this point can be a great tool to aid in cold prevention. If you are stuck at home and can't come for a treatment because you are showing cold symptoms give this point a try!

SIP AWAY-Tea Time

All of your body’s Qi is supported by your digestive system, the Spleen & Stomach.

Drinking warm beverages helps to keep your gut working at full speed. If you think you might have a cold coming on, grab some fresh ginger root and scallions and brew up this warm and spicy, cold-fighting beverage…

Cut an unpeeled, thumb-sized piece of ginger into 1/4″ thick circular slices. Cut off the white parts of the scallion, including the roots (save the green parts for adding to your dinner later). Pour boiling water over the ginger slices and scallion ends/roots. Cover your mug and let it all steep for about 15 minutes. Drink up!

TIME FOR ZZZ's- Sleep for better health

There are a lot of different types of Qi, or energy, flowing through your body. The one that helps keep us healthy is “Wei” or “Guardian” Qi, it works similarly to your immune system in Western medical terms. Wei Qi flows near the surface of your body and is constantly battling what TCM calls “external pathogens,” such as bacteria and viruses. When your Wei Qi is strong, it will prevent these pathogens from invading your body and making you sick. One of the best ways to keep your Wei qi strong is to get enough sleep. Listen to your body and set aside enough time for sleeping to stay healthy through the season.

PROTECTION FROM ELEMENTS; Wear a Scarf!

One of main ways to stay healthy is by protecting your body from outside elements (external pathogens) like Wind.

The upper back & neck is particularly vulnerable to Wind. When your pores are open Wind can get into your body where it doesn’t belong.

It generally brings along friends…usually, Heat or Cold.

A Wind-Heat and Wind-Cold invasion is the equivalent of catching a cold! Wearing a scarf keeps these vulnerable areas protected & colds away!

Stay tuned this week for daily posts of THE ULTIMATE COLD WEATHER ROUNDUP! Covering the top 5 TCM TIPS for staying healthy this cold/flu season.

As an Acupuncture student, I was introduced too many “new” ways the body worked that often differed from the Western understanding.

The tips below are all super simple things that I have adapted into my daily life & regularly share with patients to help them stay healthy. In COVID times, keeping away those colds seems even more important…no one wants to play the symptom spotting game.

Ancient Wisdom. Modern Times

Come relax and unwind in comfort while receiving a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment that is best suited to your needs.

I offer TCM Acupuncture treatments, for both men and women, addressing a wide variety of general health concerns. Some common ailments seen in clinic include; headaches, digestive issues, insomnia, pain, sciatica, allergies, colds/flus as well as menstrual irregularities and fertility support (including IVF/IUI).

In addition, I offer pregnancy support. Acupuncture can be used throughout pregnancy for general pregnancy symptoms as well as treatment for breech/posterior presentation (ideally 34-35 weeks) and/or for pre-labour acupuncture from 37 weeks to help prepare the body for labour.

Cupping therapy is available as part of treatments. This modality is a great adjunct that can help to alleviate pain and discomfort as well as ease cough and cold symptoms.
