We proudly share our space beside the Research Institution for Ageing. The Village at University Gates is a long term care home located in Waterloo with a unique partnership with the Research Institute for Aging (RIA), The University of Waterloo, and Conestoga College. We believe in resident centred care with a strong emphasis on the residents needs and desires. Our partnership with research and education helps us to provide the most innovative care to our residents.

Rain or shine, nothing was stopping us from firing up the grill today!

As part of Team Appreciation Week, we treated our amazing team to burgers fresh off the BBQ—and it was the perfect way to say THANK YOU for everything you do each and every day.

The weather may not have been perfect, but the smiles, laughter, and team spirit made it a great day!

This Earth Day, our residents came together to make a difference right here in our Village 🌎

In the afternoon, a group enjoyed a walk around the community, taking time to pick up litter and help keep our outdoor spaces clean—all while enjoying the beautiful weather and fresh air.

The celebration continued with live outdoor entertainment, bringing everyone together to relax, connect, and enjoy the day.

Moments like these remind us that even small actions can make a big impact, especially when done together.

Marguerite Munroe brings energy, leadership, and connection to many parts of Village Life at The Village at University Gates

She supports book club, Residents’ Council, choir, the library in both Retirement and Long-Term Care, and even organizes euchre tournaments while teaching fellow residents how to play. Along with her many contributions, Marguerite is also a strong advocate for others and is always looking for ways to make the Village even better.

Her willingness to lead, support, and uplift those around her makes a meaningful difference every day. We are proud to celebrate Marguerite as a Barb Schlegel Volunteer Award recipient.

This week, we are celebrating National Volunteer Week, and today we had the pleasure of hosting a special drop-in at our Ruby Restaurant.

We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon filled with treats, conversation, and the opportunity to thank our volunteers for the time, care, and dedication they have shared with our Village over the past year. Their kindness and commitment truly make a difference in the lives of our residents each and every day.

From lending a helping hand to creating meaningful connections, our volunteers play an essential role in bringing Village life to life. We are so grateful for all that they do.

We were proud to welcome SHSM students from Glenview Park Secondary School to our Village for a meaningful Sector Partner Experience.

Throughout the day, students explored both the design and lived experience of long-term care and retirement, engaging in thoughtful conversations that truly brought Village life to life. The experience concluded with an ICE creative challenge, where students shared innovative ideas for future programming.

Residents thoroughly enjoyed connecting with the students, hearing their ideas, and sharing their own experiences. Our team has already been inspired to build on the creativity and insights that were shared.

Moments like these highlight the power of intergenerational connection and the value of learning from one another.

Yesterday, we brought the fun indoors and turned University Gates into an Easter wonderland! 🐣🌸

The kids had a wonderful time running around, while our residents enjoyed sitting back and watching all the excitement and joy unfold.

We also held our Easter Egg Drop event, and although we don’t have photos to share, it was so much fun seeing the different creative designs each neighbourhood came up with to protect their egg!

A big congratulations to the Matthews, Po***ck, Downey, Hagey, Egerton, Williamsburg, Becker, and Ailsa Craig neighbourhoods
—and better luck next year to the other neighbourhoods!

A big thank you as well to everyone from the Laurelwood community for partnering with us again and joining in the celebration.

💙 Thank You, University Gates Community! 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Main Street this Wednesday for our Alzheimer’s Coffee Break. All donations went directly to the Alzheimer’s Society, and together we raised $393.85 in support of this important cause.

Thank you as well to Tim Hortons for providing the coffee, hot chocolate, and Timbits that helped make the morning such a success.
