We are beyond proud to share that, together, we have raised over $1,600 for the Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region. 💜 This incredible organization provides vital support, shelter, and hope to women and children experiencing domestic violence, and it means so much to us to be able to contribute to their important work.

A portion of these funds was raised through our 10th anniversary carnival 🎉 — a celebration made even more special by giving back to a cause so close to our hearts.

We couldn’t have done this without the generosity, kindness, and encouragement of our community. Every donation, every share, and every word of support helped us surpass our goal and make a real difference.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us and helping empower women and families in need. Together, we are creating a safer, stronger future. ✨

Yesterday we celebrated our 10th Anniversary Carnival—marking 10 years of Long-Term Care at University Gates! 🎉
The rain moved us indoors, but the fun absolutely shone through as residents, families, volunteers, and team members came together for games, music, and community. 💚

Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special—rain or shine, our village spirit is unstoppable!

We are so proud to celebrate Tom Farr, one of our incredible residents here at University Gates. 💚

This special day in Elmira honoured Tom’s roots, his wisdom, and the countless ways he continues to inspire those around him. From the farm where his story began, to the green bench conversations that keep his legacy growing, it was a beautiful reminder of the power of community and connection.

Way to go, Tom — we’re so honoured to have you as part of our village family!

Last week, some of our residents in Long-Term Care enjoyed a wonderful outing to ! 🎣

They spent the afternoon catching fish, sharing stories, and enjoying the peaceful waterfront. It was such a joy to see the smiles and laughter throughout the day.

A heartfelt thank you to the amazing staff at Lyndon for their warm hospitality and for making this experience so special for our residents.

This August, University Gates is coming together to give back.

In honour of Wilfred Schlegel Day, we are proud to support Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region, including Anselma House — a safe haven for women and children escaping abuse.

Throughout the month, we’ll be collecting cash and gift card donations to help provide the safety, shelter, and support these families urgently need.

Wilfred Schlegel believed deeply in the power of community, compassion, and caring for one another. Let’s honour his legacy by showing what it means to stand with those in need.

Donations can be brought to the Marketing Team in Retirement.

Together, we can make a difference.

From sweet Apple Dumplings and savoury Chicken and Cheese Rollups to rich Pineapple Cheesecake, the Pursuit of Passions event at University Gates was a heartwarming celebration of tradition, connection, and community. Residents and team members came together to share cherished family recipes — and the meaningful stories that come with them.

Some dishes reminded us of childhood kitchens and special holidays — like the homemade “Chicken Popeye Soup,” lovingly made from scratch with hand-cut noodles and memories of family laughter. Others, like a classic oven-baked appetizer served at every big gathering, sparked stories of anticipation and togetherness.

It was a beautiful reminder that food connects us — to our past, to each other, and to the joy of sharing something made with love.

Yesterday, our Village was filled with energy, laughter, and Canadian pride as we celebrated Canada Day together!

The day kicked off with some fast-paced fun in Long Term Care, where residents and team members competed in thrilling wheelchair races down Main Street. Cheers and laughter filled the halls as we raced to see who was the fastest on wheels!

Next, residents took part in a lively Canada Day parade around the Village, dressed in their festive red and white — showing off their patriotic spirit in style.

In the afternoon, both sides of the Village came together to enjoy live entertainment and burger sliders, making for a delicious and delightful finish to the day.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this Canada Day so full of fun, community, and celebration!

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday on the Green Bench at the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market. It was a beautiful day filled with meaningful conversations, shared memories, and community connection.

We had a wonderful time celebrating the voices and wisdom of our residents, and we’re so grateful to all who took a moment to sit, listen, and engage.

These moments remind us just how powerful storytelling can be. Thank you for being part of it!
