Connection is important to mental health at every stage of life - and it’s never too late to build it. Counselling can be a space where older adults explore new ways to strengthen relationships, reduce isolation, and grow meaningful support networks.
Stronger connections mean better mental health. You don’t have to do it alone.
Isolation amongst older adults is more common than many realize, and it can affect mental and emotional well-being. Counselling can be a place for older adults to continue growing, learning, and connecting. Whether it’s rebuilding social ties or creating new ones, support and connection matter at every stage of life.

The recent Sloka verdict has been deeply painful and disappointing for many in our community, particularly survivors of sexual assault and gender-based violence.
At Shalom, we want survivors to know: your experience and story matters. You deserve to be heard, supported, and treated with dignity.
We believe survivors. We recognize the courage it takes to come forward, and we remain committed to offering compassionate, inclusive counselling where people can move toward hope, peace, and wholeness.
If you have been impacted and would like support, please reach out to Shalom.

Today, our Fundraising and Engagement Director was invited to witness the releasing of fish into the Grand River—a memorable experience that highlights the vital role nature plays in our mental well-being. Spending time outdoors, especially engaging in activities that nurture the environment, helps reduce stress, improve mood, and foster a sense of connection to the world around us.

Acts of giving back, not only benefit our community but also instill a sense of purpose and belonging in participants of all ages. This example of caring for the river and its inhabitants, we reinforce the message that helping others—whether people or the planet—strengthens our own mental health and builds a more resilient, caring community.

Share with us your ideas of how you give back and support your own or others mental health this month! ✏️

Micah is currently a Psychotherapy Intern at Shalom and will graduate in April from the Master of Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy program at Martin Luther University College. Before entering this field, Micah spent several years in the tech industry, but eventually felt compelled to pursue work that aligns more closely with his natural strengths and desire to serve the community. His work as a therapist is grounded in his own mindfulness practice, through which he cultivates a strong quality of presence that he brings into sessions with clients.
