leading yoga on the pier has and always will have a special place in my heart.

I’ve been leading classes since my first summer on this little island that I feel so privileged to call home.

I’ve been welcomed and supported by this community with open arms and open hearts ever since.

even through the pandemic, I would walk past fellow pier-yogis in the forest and they’d share how much they missed it and looked forward to when we could gather again.

through sunshine, frost, halloween outfits, and even getting caught in the rain…it’s always been an unforgettable experience.

join myself and .yoga.creatrix every weekend on Saturday + Sunday mornings for an all-levels yoga class that will rejuvenate your body mind and soul 🌊✨

via :
For those who grew up associating positive memories with family on Canada Day, it can seem like a personal attack to be told not to celebrate this day. ⠀

For myself, as a child of Immigrants, I grew up spending Canada Day celebrating the opportunity that was given to my family, and the opportunity I have here that I wouldn't have had in my Mother Land — especially considering our motherland was in a state of war. ⠀

However, as people who understand the violence of 'Canadian' History, and the history of this government, this settler-colonial nation, and the Catholic Church, it is our duty to shape a better future for the next generation. ⠀

That includes existing in solidarity of Indigenous communities, amplifying Indigenous leaders, and putting in individual efforts to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to exist on this land.

It also means continuing to refrain from celebrating Canada Day, and instead using it as a day to participate in Indigenous organizing, demonstrations, protests, action, and holding elected government officials accountable. ⠀

Every year, I make this post because as a settler on these lands, I believe it is my duty to understand the lands I inhabit, and be critical of what I am actually celebrating when I do. ⠀

So I will continue to refrain from celebrating this settler-colonial nation, until action has been taken, reparations are met, and the 94 calls to action in the Truth and Reconciliation report have been achieved — and I hope you will join in doing the same. ⠀

🧡🧡🧡⠀

Things you can do instead:

🤎 Participate in Indigenous events that will be running across cities as a part of
🤎 Replace your red and white for orange
🤎 Have genuine conversations about what it means to be ‘Canadian’
🤎 Take any $$$ you may have spent on fireworks and patriotic colours & donate it to your local Indigenous organizations
🤎 Be in community to have these conversations amongst each other

PS- Almost 10 years into this reminder and I’m letting y’all know that anyone who comes close to saying “if you don’t like it here you can go back to where you came from” is getting an INSTANT block

YOU ARE OKAY!

Not feeling particularly okay right now? It’s okay not to be okay, too. You WILL feel okay again soon! I promise.

I’ve been scrolling through some of my old posts. This was from October 2018. I was packing up my life and preparing to move across the country (note the bare mattress). I did not feel okay. I felt a panic attack coming on. I felt a sudden urge to write to myself. I grabbed the closest paper + pen that I could find, and intuitively just wrote this out to myself over and over again. It was therapeutic and cathartic. When I posted this, I wrote about how I wanted to journal more…

Well well well…

Here I am over 3 years later and I still haven’t made a habit of journaling. Amidst this forever-feelslikeitsneverending-pandemic, and many places across the globe going back into “lockdown”…I fear for many peoples mental health.

No matter your beliefs, we are all being negatively impacted by this event that has lasted over two years now. I believe that all human beings are in the midst of a collective traumatic experience. Whether you are aware of it or not, I believe this is affecting us all, and will for years to come (maybe a lifetime).

>

📚
Anywho, I feel like I’m not the only one out there who WANTS to journal, understands the logic of it’s benefits, has started and stopped many times, but it still won’t stick. Every time I do, I feel so much better. It’s also therapeutic to look back and reflect on where I was at, and how far I’ve come.

Are you a habitual journal-er? I NEED YOUR HELP!❤️📔

PLEASE SHARE YOUR TIPS BELOW💬!
I’m sick of should-ing all over myself and then guilt-tripping myself for not doing it.

I welcome any and all of your tips and tricks, and hopefully this will help others who, like me, tends to procrastinate the things that could help us the most.

🙏🏻

looking ahead to a new year, yet trying to stay grounded where I am now.

calling in safety, protection, good health, abundance, confidence, slowness, and good times ✨

inviting the release of negative thought patterns, habits that don’t serve me anymore, judgements, attachment, self hatred, doubt, fear…

may I love myself fully.
may relish in the moment more and more every day.
may I be grounded here and now.
may I set and respect boundaries.
may I see love in everything and every one. may I be confident in who I am and what I want to offer in this world.

sending y’all blessings for 2022!!!🙏🏻✨

being vulnerable in this space has gotten me this far, and I ain’t stopping now...

I took this photo yesterday, while laying in bed at 3pm on a beautiful sunny day, trying to get some work done.

yesterday I realized that I forgot to take my antidepressants (Zoloft) for maybe at least 2 days - I’m not sure. (I shared recently that I am on medication for anxiety + depression so if this is news to you HI! please be kind.)

I’m forgetting a lot nowadays, I think it’s just general anxiety, the long term stress effects of this pandemic (yes this whole thing is a trauma for all of us I believe we will feel the effects for some time), plus my not-yet-diagnosed ADHD. oh and probably climate change becoming more obvious and palpable as time goes on etc. etc. etc.

anywho, I was feeling super woozy, light headed, dizzy, and nauseas. I’ve never been off of them for that long, and it felt really fu***ng s**tty, plus an added layer of guilt for feeling bad that I forgot in the first place.

of course, I had been putting off work for a few days so on the day I had planned to get s**t done this happens.

so, there I am laying in bed trying to get a few things checked off my list cause...well I still have responsibilities and commitments I’ve been neglecting...gotta pay those bills!!!

just sending hugs and love to anyone else who’s having a rough day(s), figuring out their mental health diagnoses, has ever forgotten their meds, has any chronic and/or invisible illness or just simple existing and surviving through this wild world were living in.

I love you!♥️✨

(ps. I’m feeling mostly better today, just taking it easy, been macrameing away preparing for upcoming markets for !)

06/17/2021

yesterday I completed a 10-week group CBT/DBT therapy program for mental health.

last year I went to my family doctor and finally received diagnoses and treatment for my mental health, which I’d been struggling with for years.

I have generalized anxiety, social anxiety, depression which can range from mild to severe and am currently being assessed for adhd.

I have been taking zoloft, an antidepressant, since february 2020 (thank goddess I started it when I did)

some days I feel like this photo and would rather curl into a ball and not deal with the world. I have dipped into many dark places in my past that I’m not ready to share with the world yet.

but I wanted you to know that if the darkness has a hold on you that you’re not alone.

as a yoga instructor and someone who tries to generally promote kindness and goodness in this world, it can sometimes be difficult to talk about it. imposter syndrome has suffocated me many times before and I hate when it rears it’s head...

because deep down I know that I am a human. I struggle with life’s many challenges just like everyone else. just because I’m a yoga teacher does not mean that I have everything figured out.

and actually, the more I speak about it in my classes and with my students and others in general, the more I understand how similar our suffering is a lot of the time. I see myself in them, and we share a deeper more vulnerable connection which allows me to help them in some way just by making them feel seen (I hope)

if I can help just one person in talking about my struggles, it’s worth being vulnerable.

no one deserves to walk through this alone.

(more thoughts on mental health and healing to come as I continue on this jOuRney✨)

✨goddess energy✨

when you look at this photo, what do you see?

this was the first photo that sent me, to ask me which edit I preferred.

my eyes immediately went to my belly rolls.

my thoughts then spiralled into every negative thought I’ve ever had about my body. and I spiralled hard.

I started to shame myself for not dieting or detoxing to prepare for this shoot.

I was mad that even though I practice yoga + pilates regularly and hike/walk every day, I still look like this.

I felt horrible, almost sick to my stomach (ironically) about my body for the a bug chunk of my day.

JUST BEING 💯 HONEST + REAL WITH WHAT WENT THROUGH MY HEAD.👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

YES, I know better and these aren’t actual true feelings that I have towards myself.

but, they are a very real reaction that I learned from a young age based on my environment, the media, our culture, etc...

and it’s something I’m continuously working on, believe me.

I thought I had come so far in loving myself that I was shocked that these thoughts showed up.

healing. is. not. linear.

sometimes we stumble backwards, and that’s okay, we just have to remember to keep trekking forward.

funny part is, my core is literally the strongest it’s been in a long time.

also, I was on my fu***ng period!!!!

and as Nico kindly reminded me, I’m literally bent in half here LOL

YOUR LOVING REMINDER:

our thoughts DO NOT equal reality. your body is beautiful in all it’s rolly-polly glory. it is a vessel for your soul and you are literally a living breathing miracle.

my hot tip for body love and healing negative thoughts - replace each one with something about its function.

body NEUTRALITY > body positivity

and finally, thanks to my internet friend for sending me an image of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and passion. she told me I reminded her of a goddess statue here🥺😭

SO GO BE A GODDESS OF LOVE, YOU BEAUTIFUL SOULS!!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️
