In February, we celebrated Black History Month by learning about the foodways of nineteenth century Black settlers in our community at the Kitchener Public Library's lecture on "Black Canadian Foodways in Early Elmira (Queen's Bush Settlement)."

Presented by Laila El Mugammar, Black Canadian scholar, journalist and Lifelong Learning Librarian. Her body of work explores the historic and present-day relationships between Black Canadians and public spaces.

Using a historical artifact from Kitchener Public Library's collection of documents, we examined the celebratory foodways of the Queen's Bush settlement, one of Ontario's most notable historic Black communities. Food samples were served and a discussion followed.

Our residents had a lovely time celebrating Lunar New Year! Did you know that Lunar New Year celebrations spans 16 days, from February 10–25?

This Lunar New Year welcomes the Year of the Horse and is a time often associated with change, breakthroughs, and new opportunities!

What started as a simple Friday afternoon game of pool turned into something truly heartwarming. ❤️ As residents enjoyed their game, a special surprise arrived: the Twin City Harmonizers, invited as a Valentine’s gift from residents at the Village.

They visited our Memory Care (Parkview Suites) to serenade residents with their beautiful singing.

A standout moment was when one of our residents stepped up to sing with his friends! Moments like these remind us how powerful connection can be and how proud we are to foster a community where friendships flourish and meaningful connections thrive.

March is and we are happy to welcome our music therapy interns, Amanda and Eve! Every Wednesday, under the leadership of our in-house Music Therapist Brian, the students offer both personalized and group music therapy sessions to our Memory Care (Parkview Suites) residents.

Their compassion, energy, and professionalism make a meaningful difference for our residents, who always enjoy these musical moments!

Our Parkview Suites Memory Care residents recently enjoyed a wonderful outing on the Village bus to Market Road Antiques at St. Jacob’s Market! 🚌🕰️From discovering hidden treasures to sharing laughs with friends, it's always fun to explore the unique items you can find at an antique store!
