Today we celebrate National Speech-Language Pathologist Day and recognize the incredible impact SLPs make every day. 💙

Speech-Language Pathologists support communication, literacy, swallowing, and self-advocacy across the lifespan. From helping a child say their first words, to supporting students in the classroom, to helping adults regain communication after injury or illness, this profession changes lives in meaningful ways.

I feel grateful to work alongside amazing students, families, educators, and colleagues who remind me daily how powerful communication truly is.

Thank you to all the SLPs out there for your compassion, patience, creativity, and dedication. Your work matters more than words can say.

🌟 May is Speech & Hearing Month! 🌟

What is Communication Health?

Many of us take communication for granted, but speaking, hearing, and being understood are essential parts of daily life. For individuals with communication challenges, even simple interactions can be difficult, impacting work, education, relationships, and overall well-being.

Early Identification and Intervention Matter

Communication disorders can affect physical, emotional and social well-being. Identifying and addressing concerns early can make a meaningful difference and improve outcomes at any age.

How Communication Health Professionals Help

Speech-language pathologists (S-LPs) and audiologists play a key role in assessing and treating communication disorders across the lifespan.
• S-LPs support speech, language, social communication, and swallowing
• Audiologists focus on hearing, balance, and related conditions
• Communication health assistants provide valuable support under professional supervision

Check back this month as we raise awareness and support communication for all! 💬

Rural Speech & Language Services is looking to partner with a registered counsellor in private practice who is interested in offering counselling services within our clinic a few days per month.

This opportunity is ideal for a counsellor who is looking to expand their private practice and build their own client caseload while working within a collaborative environment. Our clinic regularly serves children and families who would benefit from counselling support alongside speech-language and learning services.

We are seeking a professional who would like to visit the clinic periodically (for example, a few days each month) to see clients in person in a welcoming, family-centred space.

Please email Jen at ruralspeech@gmail.com if you have questions or interest in this opportunity.
