Did you know that your nervous system sends clear signals when it’s under strain? Irritability, short temper, or that feeling of being “on edge” are often the first indicators of dysregulation, frequently driven by blood sugar instability.

I love this post by .holistic.psychologist - it’s a perfect example of food as medicine and the profound connection between metabolic health and nervous system regulation.

When your blood glucose drops rapidly or fluctuates dramatically, your body releases stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline to compensate. This triggers your sympathetic nervous system (your fight-or-flight response) which manifests as irritability, anxiety, or emotional reactivity.

Here’s how to reset:

🥩 Eat protein or healthy fats to slow glucose absorption and prevent the spike-and-crash cycle that keeps your nervous system in overdrive

We are wired for rhythm, flow, and expression — and stress often dissipates when we return to that natural state of motion.

Exercise doesn’t just strengthen muscles or improve cardiovascular health; it soothes the mind in ways that modern science continues to affirm. Movement releases endorphins, boosts serotonin, and regulates cortisol, restoring our sense of emotional harmony. It’s a biological reminder that we are wired for rhythm, flow, and expression — and that stress often dissipates when we return to our natural state of motion.

Beyond that, physical activity gives the nervous system what it craves most: safety and regulation. Whether it’s a brisk walk, yoga flow, or a quick dance in your kitchen, mindful movement creates space for tension to soften and emotions to process. The rhythmic pattern of breath and motion signals to the brain that it’s okay to relax, inviting clarity where there was once chaos and presence where there was once overwhelm.

Over time, this practice becomes less about “working out” and more about “working through.” Exercise becomes a form of emotional hygiene — a way to clear what the day accumulates and reconnect to your sense of balance and vitality. Changing your story isn't easy. I provide no BS here about that.
Any change can be tricky, but doing it with a health coaching gal like moi....much less painful and easier in some cases because I have tools, hacks, experience to expertly guide ya though it all ;)

Currently in a situation, not a pleasant one, where I have to take responsibility for how I respond to my own triggers. Two triggered people is a sh*tty thing. LOL. So, I diffuse my own triggered self and remember that I can have peace at the end of this situation (long, drawn out one sadly) and yet, I am not in control of how the other person responds. ZERO CONTROL. But I am in control of how I deal with mine.
I get to walk away keeping my peace and calm.

I urge you to remember that its not about your unmet emotional needs from childhood, nor past trauma, its about letting go of the need to win the argument and walking away at the end of it all with peace in your heart and mind. Not easy, but possible.
