Welcome back to our third year students Emke and Sarah!! They start with us again tomorrow for 8 weeks and we can’t wait to see them finish off strong. Thank you again for allowing them in your care- they are an asset !!

Our third year midwifery students Emke and Sarah are now on break from placement and will be returning to us in January!
We just want to thank everyone so much for your willingness to have them involved in your care. It means a lot to them, and us. Very special to see the bond some of you are making with them ❤️

Please welcome our third year midwifery students Emke and Sarah! They will be with us for the majority of the next 6 months. We feel it’s more important now than ever to teach and encourage students given the maternity care crisis. Having a student involved in your care is always your choice. We thank you so much for considering helping us guide them into their professional lives.

There’s been a lot of questions regarding the recent articles/statements about our pediatric and maternity provider shortage. We are so glad to answer your questions to ensure you are getting absolute facts. If you already have a maternity care provider (us!), your care/labor/birth will not be affected. This is mainly regarding the concerning number of pregnant folks who are in the community with no provider. This has been an ongoing crisis. This is what increases our obstetrician’s workload as they are now responsible for these unattached patients. If we need an obstetrician’s help during your labor please know you will be safe and cared for, there is always one on-call for us. The NICU and maternity floor will also always have a pediatrician on-call. The pediatric floor (for older babies and children) is closed and this is absolutely critical but will not affect your birth. Our community deserves better, this crisis is not new it is only getting worse. Primary care providers have been over stretched for years and now our specialist consultants are being tasked with caring for low risk patients. We stand with our community, and pediatric and obstetric colleagues in demanding change. Please feel free to write any questions in the comments to be answered. Once again, we want to make sure you are getting up to date and accurate information. We understand how these articles would cause stress. Thank you ❤️

We’ve been alerted that KGH phones may not be working tonight, therefore you won’t be able to call L&D with concerns. Therefore, we will keep our emergency pager online the whole night. Please only use it for seeking urgent medical attention. You can of course also always just present to L&D to get seen 🙂 thank you !!
