πŸƒ When we started distributing Moringa Powder to local schools and orphanages we absorbed all of the transport and processing costs. Then a generous benefactor stepped up and covered our costs. Not too long after that, this gentleman offered his celebrity to the program.

Meet "NAVIO" East Africa's #1 hip-hop artist. He loves helping the children and this was a natural fit for him that brought a lot of media attention to the program. Because of this collaboration, we have been able to expand the program significantly.

πŸƒ When every scoop of soil on your farm yields a handful of worms--we call that evidence of Biodiversity.

And the snakes, lizards, bugs and bees we call that a Jungle Farm. Uganda is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world and we are located smack dab in the middle of it.

For the academics in the crowd here's what the dictionary says: The term biodiversity (from β€œbiological diversity”) refers to the variety of life on Earth at all its levels, from genes to ecosystems, and can encompass the evolutionary, ecological, and cultural processes that sustain life.

πŸƒ It may sound surprising but 80% of Uganda's population lives in the country, not the cities. And a majority of these hard-working people live off the land on subsistence farming, mainly growing corn and root vegetables.

In times of drought, it can get pretty desperate. On Priceless Farms , we have contracted with 14 families to live and work on the farm full time at a fair wage and the opportunity to learn Permaculture Design and pursue a career in agriculture. We've learned from them as well. These amazing people have become the stewards of the trees on our lands.

πŸƒ In addition to training our own farmers and staff in the art and science of Permaculture Design, Priceless Farms invites young students from local colleges and the University of East Africa to take our PDC certificate programs.

We also train managers of the local orphanages--skills that they use to teach their charges how to create their own gardens and feed themselves and learn about sustainable agriculture. We also attract students from Europe and North America. Some of our local graduates now work as managers at Priceless Farms. Education is fundamental to the success of the farm.

πŸƒ Africa generally gets a lot of lightning and Uganda gets more than its share on the continent. While it's dangerous and lives are lost every year to lightning strikes, those strikes also form a compound called nitrate. That nitrate falls to the ground in raindrops that seep into the soil to be absorbed by plants. Cool huh!? I guess that's one of the reasons why Uganda is among the most fertile areas in the world.

πŸƒ Critical to producing superior quality moringa powder is the wash cycle. It begins with pristine water and a dash of chlorine to remove the dirt and bugs then immediately threshed and on to the drying stage.

It all happens quickly to preserve the phytonutrients and retain the brilliant green color unique to Priceless Farms moringa powder.

πŸƒ It starts the minute it's planted into soil and given water. But the most important factor in growing quickly and bursting with nutritious phytonutrients is the health of the soil it is planted in, the pristine quality of the water and climate.

The tree grows to be a small bush and after about 3 months and we can begin to harvest the leaves and process them into the highly potent Moringa Powder we offer to our customers. After six months and some careful pruning and care the tree is producing many more branches and leaves. For the leaf powder production, we keep pruning the tree back to 4 to 5 feet high so that it continues to bush out and produce even more leaves. Some of the trees are allowed to grow much higher, 20 feet so they begin producing seed pods which we can then harvest for our seed stock.

πŸƒ Moringa trees can grow up to 18 feet in less than six months, making it hard to harvest leaves and seed pods. If you β€œtop” your tree at a height you are comfortable with, the tree will develop a lush bush-like habit in the warm weather months.
