She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics and Education from the University of British Columbia, and a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from City University of Seattle. Karen’s counselling practice is enriched by the following life experience. She is a daughter that lost her mother to Alzheimer’s and understands the struggles of this disease. She is a mother of two children, one

of which was mislabeled by the elementary school system and required a strong advocate to help guide him through this process. She also has a background as a school teacher, coach, and health and wellness counsellor which provided her with a rich training ground for supporting people in the process of growth and healing.

Secure-functioning relationships can make us physically healthier. However, the opposite is true if you’re in an unjust, unfair, or unsafe relationship. Just being with someone is not enough.

If one partner's needs always come above the other's needs, for example, that will erode the security of the relationship. The stress that comes from not having a primary relationship be secure can negatively impact your mental and physical health.
