With COVID-19 we've had to postpone many large celebrations of life's' for families. These times can be even tougher for families having to wait to hold a service for their loved one. It just compounds more grief on their loss.

To write condolences to any families who have experienced a loss, or to follow up on future service dates, we invite you to view our obituary section on our website.

These are trying times and our family and staff are here to help. We're adapting to meet different services that can allow families to come together (small groups/online) and to provide a chance to grieve and mourn. If you have any questions on how we're adapting to the COVID pandemic, please do not hesitate to contact us.

COVID-19 Statement from our Owners/ Family:

During this stressful and unconventional time, we wanted to update everyone on how we’re handling the situation here at McKenzie Funeral Services. With lots of news and regulations changing on a daily basis, please know that our funeral home is open and our family and staff are here if anyone needs our assistance.

The safety and well being of our citizens is our top priority, thus we have set the following guidelines to meet the needs of families that we serve that are consistent with the Provincial Authorities.

1)Daily cleaning and disinfecting of all areas of our business. Every day we’re doing regular cleaning to our facilities.

2)If you’re in need of our services, we’re available by phone 24/7. You will always speak to one of our funeral directors/family members when you call.

3)Arrangements can be made by the following methods: In-person (limited to max 3 people per meeting, and 6 feet social distancing), by phone, email, or we offer the use of facetime/skype arrangements in our office.

4)Limiting gatherings/ small groups/ online services: We do offer webcasting and recording services for those who cannot attend a celebration of life/funeral or graveside ceremonies. If there are services that require large gatherings, we will look into ways of postponing the event or provide online viewing options for those families.

5) We have designated handwashing stations and hand sanitizers for families needing to come to our location. Free pens will also be provided to reduce any cross-contamination.

We understand that with the COVID pandemic that these times are trying and even more difficult for those in our community who lose a loved one. Thus, we’re doing our best to adapt and meet the needs of our families.

In the last week, we have been in contact with several families who had previously arranged Celebrations of Life Services and Memorials for the upcoming weeks. Many of these services have been temporarily postponed until a further date. We encourage those who planned to attend to refer back to our webpage and the online memorial pages we’ve set up for the deceased for future date information as it becomes available.

If you’re sick/showing symptoms, we ask that you do not attend our office or any services and to either contact a local health official and to self-isolate. Arrangements can be made to view a service via recording or webcasting.

If you have any questions, concerns, or need further information we encourage you to call us. We’re here to help.
Thank you for your time, stay safe, and we will get through this together.

Sincerely,

The McKenzie Family

Great idea and an incredible way to give back.

What a beautiful moment from , truly shows the lengths those in palliative care got to for their patients. ()
・・・
I’m looking after a patient who we know only has a short amount of time to live. They have refused all medical interventions and treatments, even ones to help with symptoms. I asked if there was anything we could do to help make today better. They turned to me with a cheeky grin and said, “A lobster dinner would be nice.” 🦞
Our team thought, “why not?” and phoned up one of the best seafood restaurants in the city, . They don’t normally do take out, but given the circumstances they were more than happy to help us out. When I arrived the manager thanked us for the work we do and said casually, “this one’s on the house.” 💙
Our patient beamed when I brought in the takeout bag, commenting on the delicious smell of melted butter and freshly prepared lobster. It was the best they felt in a long time. 👌🏻
Thank you for helping make this individual feel so special, and for making their day a little brighter. This small gesture of compassion towards a complete stranger speaks to the power of human kindness. 🙏🏻
This is palliative care. ✨
*this story was shared with the patient’s permission and encouragement* .

We've launched our first ever Blog; The McKenzie Journal.

To start our first blog post we thought we would start with a topic so many families ask us about but are unfamiliar with, Canadian CPP benefits following a death.

Many Canadians are unaware of the benefits their family and their estate are entitled to following a death. The good thing is that our family has been helping families for decades with the applications. Read our post and gather the necessary information to help you understand what benefits you and y...
