We were able to give some definition lines with this patient’s tummy tuck because her skin quality could handle it.

Good collagen and elastin is very helpful for the skin to « stick » to the areas we do higher def lipo.

Also in general, you need better skin quality to be able to handle the added trauma of lipo that is closer to the skin without getting damaged.

When looking for inspo pics for your surgery, try and find pre ops photos of patients who you think have a similar skin quality to yours. This can help you get a better idea on YOUR post op pics.

Your surgery takes at least 6 months to get nearer to your final results.

One month after your tummy tuck, you can already see improvements in the silhouette.

At three months things start to look more relaxed and natural (like the belly button).

The scar takes over a year to fully mature.

Massages, garments and scar care are the best way to get the most out of your surgery.

Implant surgery is not a one and done procedure. Over time they may need changing for various reasons.

A simple way to know if you may want to exchange them is if you notice a change in your breasts.

We switched her implants to the dual plane position to provide some lift to the ni**le without the breast lift scars. Bigger implant as well to give more volume and perk.

Good perky cleavage with a braless top or dress is the look a lot of people want.

It’s lower more moderate profile implants that are often more useful to attaining these goals. Higher implants are, by definition, narrower for the same volume. Narrower = less middle cleavage.

Using a combination of dual plane muscle placement with lateral muscle sling and internal bra are also used to push the implants to the middle, increasing the middle cleavage and definition.

High def lipo may sound like it will give exaggerated results.

Quite the opposite. Our abdomens (and bodies) are not flat, nondescript surfaces. A tummy tuck flattens the skin, a little too much in some areas. You have probably seen some post op abdos that look a little off. Well that overly flat look is often the reason.

We use liposuction to sculpt and carve out the certain areas and leave some fat behind in zones that need it.

And yes, well done lipo will also enhance your hourglass curves.

Implant exchanges can often be bigger, more complex surgeries than a primary breast augmentation.

The breast implant capsules need to be tailored to fit the new implants and sometimes when we open we can be surprised with what we find.

She also wanted more volume and middle cleavage so we switched her old implants out for something bigger to fill the extra space.

So we found these implants during our patient’s breast implant exchange.

Current cohesive gel implants do not tend to seep into and get incorporated into your tissues.

These however originated in Brazil, and they did. We found thick calcified capsules that are complex to remove.

These implants remind me of the implants that were placed in the 70s and 80s on some older patients that I occasionally am requested to move.

There are amazing surgeons and surgeries done in Brazil and in other countries. This may have just been a coincidence, but we suggest if you are having you implant surgery done in another country, try and request the implants from companies that we use here too.

We switched these out for newer bigger silicone cohesive gel implants from mentor. Happy ending they look great. Post op photos to come in a future post.

She has a great before picture but she was looking to add some middle cleavage and a little more volume.

Switching to a lower profile implant gave the fullness she was looking for. Sometimes high profile implants can look a little « tight » on the chest. Lowering the profile gives a softer, fuller and more natural result.

We also switched to dual plane muscle placement with internal bra to help perk up the ni**le.

Submuscular, pre pec, subfascial, dual plane?

A lot of terms, and that can be quite overwhelming for patients.

Each position offers some advantages and disadvantages and this is why some surgeons choose one technique over another. No one is technique is all better than the rest.

….BUT we like, and mostly use, a combination of dual plane positioning (half under the muscle), with internal bra, and a inferolateral muscle sling.

We find this gives the support needed to HOLD UP the implant, gives the MOST MIDDLE CLEAVAGE, and a smoother round upper pole. It also allows to a lot of customization. We love it.

A tummy tuck is still the only procedure that is able to remove excess abdominal skin.

Liposuction is done at the same time to really shape out the waistline and give some natural definition to the end result.

Recovery of about 4-6 weeks before any light exercise. And garments for 2-3 months.
