So many people come to therapy feeling disconnected - from others, from their own sense of purpose, or from the parts of themselves that once felt vibrant. One gentle way to begin rebuilding that sense of connection is by acting on your caring values. Small moments of kindness, generosity, or support don’t just help others - they genuinely help you.
Research shows that prosocial behaviors - checking in on a friend, offering help at home, listening with presence - can lift mood, reduce stress, and create a sense of meaning. These aren’t grand gestures. They’re everyday choices that remind us who we are and what matters.
Caring actions strengthen relationships, ease anxiety, and help people move out of isolation and back into connection. And the best part? Even one small act can start an upward spiral.
We wrote about this in more depth on our website including why kindness is so powerful for mental health and how you can begin using your caring values to support your own well being.

How you spend your free time matters more than you might think.
We often treat leisure as “downtime” or a reward - but research shows it can play an important role in mental health and overall well-being. Not all leisure is created equal. For example, unwinding with a show on Netflix can help you relax, but it may not leave you feeling fulfilled in the long run.
In our latest article, we explore how different types of leisure - passive vs. active, escaping vs. meaningful - can either drain or support your sense of purpose, connection, and satisfaction.
If you’ve ever finished your free time feeling oddly unfulfilled, read.

😤To Forgive or Not to Forgive😉
Forgiveness is often described as healing, and there is a large body of research supports that point of view. People who forgive tend to experience lower levels of depression, anxiety, and stress, and greater overall well-being.
But the science is more nuanced than we sometimes hear.
A recent review in Social and Personality Psychology Compass highlights that forgiveness isn’t always the “right” or immediate response. Context matters, especially when it comes to fairness, safety, and repeated harm.
Fairness matters.
If someone hasn’t taken responsibility, shown remorse, or tried to repair the harm, pushing yourself to forgive too quickly can feel like a betrayal of your own values.
Safety comes first.
In situations involving emotional or physical harm, forgiveness should never override personal safety. Boundaries and distance may be the healthiest choice.
Patterns matter.
When hurtful behavior is ongoing, forgiveness without change can reinforce the cycle. Sometimes, holding onto a degree of “unforgiveness” can protect you by helping you recognize what isn’t okay.
Forgiveness can be deeply healing but it doesn’t have to be automatic. Sometimes the healthiest path includes boundaries, clarity, and time.
If you’re struggling to figure out what’s right for you, therapy can help you sort through these decisions in a way that supports your well-being. Our clinicians at Medipsy are here to help.

It’s Autism Everything Month — awareness, acceptance, and appreciation. I know this can be a month that leads to collective groans for many of us (myself included), so each year I run a mini-series that focuses on action. This year I’m bringing back our infographics and articles that highlight concrete steps we can take across different areas of society. This graphic focuses on ways we can make the world more inclusive for Autistic people, from challenging stereotypes and listening to Autistic voices to advocating for inclusive policies and practices.

To go deeper into each of these actions (and why these specific ones matter), you can read the full article on our website.

😴Sleep apps promise better rest. But do they really help?
Research shows they can increase awareness and support healthier habits. But for some people, especially those prone to anxiety or perfectionism, tracking sleep can actually make it harder to sleep.
We often see this in practice: the more someone focuses on getting “perfect” sleep, the more pressure they feel at night.
Sleep technology isn’t for everyone. It matters how you use it—and whether it’s helping or adding stress.
Curious if sleep tracking is right for you?

A fun insight from Psychology Today we feel will resonate with many. We often hear from clients that they have taken on or have been reluctantly put in the role of a confidant. This can sometimes have an impact on our own well being and other times be outright unwelcome for a mutitude of reasons. There are ways of protecting yourself and setting boundaries.
For those in the industry, how do you deal with these requests outside of the therapeutic setting?

How to weigh the relational risks and benefits.

How to Use AI Without Messing Up Your Therapy 🌟
So, you’ve been chatting with your AI. Maybe it gave advice, analyzed your texts, or helped you journal. This will not be a shock to your therapist. But how do you make sure it actually helps your therapy instead of confusing things? Here are some tips.
1. AI is a reflective assistant, not a therapist
Use AI to journal, think things through, or track your feelings. Remember: it’s clever, but it doesn’t have your therapist’s experience or grasp of the whole picture.
2. Bring its ideas to your therapist as ideas not truths
AI might give advice or interpretations. Use them as conversation starters, not hard facts. Your therapist can help you see how what you have found fits (or doesn’t fit) into your therapy.
3. Don’t get stuck talking to AI 24/7
Chatting non-stop can make rumination worse. Balance it with real human support: your therapist, friends, or family.
4. Watch your privacy
AI chats might be saved. Don’t share anything super personal you wouldn’t want stored somewhere online.
5. Ask your therapist how to use it to support session work
Many therapists suggest between-session activities. If you want to use your AI for these, talk to your therapist to make sure that what you are doing with AI is supporting the therapeutic work not avoiding it.
6. Remember AI is programmed to be positive
AI bots often cheer you on or validate you, even when it’s not entirely accurate. Your therapist should be offering you a combination of support and challenge of the things that are not working for you. Be wary of solutions that always feel good.
💡 Bottom line: AI can be a great helper for thinking things through between sessions, but it’s not a substitute for your therapist. Use it wisely, bring its ideas to your sessions, and be open with your therapist about how you’re using it. Therapeutic change is enhanced when your reflection and honesty meet your therapist’s professional judgment and support.
💬 How have you used AI in your therapy, or how do you plan to? Share your thoughts in the comments!
