Yay! Government coverage for CGM’s for certain individuals is now available!

We are expanding access to continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), making it easier for Albertans to monitor and manage their diabetes.

Coverage for continuous glucose monitors is now extended to adults over 18 with diabetes who are enrolled in an Alberta government sponsored health plan and require specific insulin therapies.

Alberta’s government is committed to improving diabetes management for Albertans living with this chronic condition.

With approximately 1.3 million Albertans currently living with diabetes or prediabetes, and that number projected to rise to 1.7 million by 2034, expanding access to innovative health technologies is essential.

More Albertans will now have access to wearable technology that supports managing their diabetes, simplifying the process of tracking and managing blood sugar levels.

We will continue to explore innovative technologies to ensure Albertans can access the care they need, when and where they need it.

Did you know?

Continuous glucose monitor coverage will continue for children and youth under 18 with diabetes who are enrolled in an Alberta government-sponsored health plan and require insulin or insulin pump therapy.

This expansion builds on the success of CGM coverage for children and youth under 18, introduced in February 2022.

Approximately 23,500 additional Albertans will now benefit from expanded access to this life-changing technology.

We are well under way now with vaccines at Family Pharmacy!!

We can provide injections for Patients five years old and up.

FLU SHOTS: are on a walk-in basis, from 9:30am - 5:00pm Monday to Friday (although we try to avoid over lunch time, as it’s a longer wait time for you). No appointment necessary.

COVID SHOTS: to minimize waste, we puncture our vials on THURSDAYS so call ahead to book a spot, or walk-in on a THURSDAY for your Covid vaccine between 9:30am - 5pm. (Avoiding lunch hour for wait times) Call us if you need to make other arrangements. We are most commonly using the Pfizer vaccine but also have Moderna available.

RSV SHOTS: our Pharmacy hasn’t been sent any from Alberta Health. Please call around to see if any Pharmacies in our area are offering it.
You would qualify for the RSV vaccine at no charge to you if:
- you are 75+ years old
OR
- you are living in a continuing care home or supportive living arrangement and are over 60 years old

(We can provide the vaccine to you if you don’t qualify, but you’d have to pay for it)

PNEUMONIA SHOT: generally, if you’ve had 1 dose while you were over 65 years old, you probably don’t need another one. However, ask one of our Pharmacists about your specific situation, as you may qualify for another booster.
