✨ Sebaceous Filaments vs. Blackheads ✨
Ever wondered why those tiny dots on your nose don’t always go away no matter how much you squeeze? 🤔
Here’s the difference:
🔹 Sebaceous Filaments
• Normal + natural part of your skin
• Help guide oil (sebum) from your pores to the surface
• Appear as small, grayish or flesh-toned dots
• Everyone has them (especially in oily areas like the nose!)
• Can be less visible with gentle cleansing + exfoliation, but they’ll always come back — because they’re supposed to be there.
🔹 Blackheads
• A type of clogged pore (open comedone)
• Form when excess oil + dead skin get trapped
• Turn dark due to oxidation (not dirt!)
• Can be treated with exfoliation (like salicylic acid), retinoids, or professional extractions.
—> Bottom line: Sebaceous filaments are normal and healthy. Blackheads are a type of acne. Knowing the difference helps you treat your skin with kindness🫶🏼
