Retinol is a vitamin A derivative commonly used in medical-grade skincare to support cell turnover and collagen production. The winter months are often an ideal time to introduce or continue retinol, as there is typically less cumulative sun exposure compared to summer.
Potential benefits of retinol use include:
• Improved skin texture and tone
• Reduction in the appearance of fine lines
• Support for acne-prone or congested skin
• More even pigmentation over time
Retinol can cause dryness or irritation, especially when starting. Use as directed, introduce gradually, and apply broad-spectrum SPF daily, as retinol can increase sun sensitivity.
Not all skin types are suitable for retinol. A consultation with a qualified medical professional can help determine the most appropriate product and regimen for your skin.

Have you heard of HALO®?
HALO® is a hybrid fractional laser treatment that combines ablative (surface-level) and non-ablative (deeper) laser wavelengths in a single session. This dual approach is designed to address multiple layers of the skin at once.
• The ablative component targets the skin’s surface to help improve texture and visible sun damage
• The non-ablative component delivers controlled heat to deeper layers, supporting collagen stimulation
• Treatment creates microscopic treatment zones, allowing surrounding tissue to assist with healing
HALO® may be considered for concerns such as fine lines, visible pores, uneven tone, and sun damage, with less downtime compared to fully ablative laser treatments.
Laser treatments are medical procedures and require an individualized medical consultation to determine suitability, risks, and recovery expectations.

Heading to the slopes? You may be surprised, but UV exposure is often higher during ski season due to altitude and reflection off snow. Ultraviolet rays can damage skin year-round, increasing the risk of premature aging and skin cancer even on cold or cloudy days.
Here's what we recommend:
• Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher
• Reapply every 2 hours, especially after sweating
• Don’t forget high-risk areas: lips, nose, ears, and under the chin
• Pair sunscreen with protective eyewear
Protecting your skin is an essential part of overall health.
If you have concerns about sun damage or choosing the right SPF for your skin type, speak with someone from our team.
Stay safe, enjoy the slopes, and take care of your skin this ski season.
At Whistler Medical Aesthetics, our approach is grounded in medical oversight, patient education, and individualized care.
