Do you feel that nagging pain just below your kneecap when you run, jump, or squat? 🤔

Many athletes brush it off as “normal soreness,” but that little twinge could be your proximal patellar tendon struggling to keep up with your training. Ignoring it can make it chronic—and harder to recover from later.

Here are the top 7 mistakes athletes make that prevent tendon healing:
1️⃣ Ignoring Early Pain – Tendons adapt slowly. Small microtears signal your body to adjust. Ignoring pain can turn a minor issue into chronic tendonitis.
💡 Tip: Listen to your body! Pain is a signal, not a nuisance.
2️⃣ Overloading Too Soon – Sudden jumps in training volume or intensity can overload tendons. Think of your tendon like a steel spring: stress it gradually, or it deforms.
💡 Tip: Progress slowly and monitor soreness.
3️⃣ Relying Only on Rest or Ice – Temporary relief doesn’t remodel tendons. Tendons need controlled loading to get stronger.
💡 Tip: Combine rest with light, progressive exercises.
4️⃣ Skipping Proper Warm-Ups or Strength Work – Strong surrounding muscles act as shock absorbers. Skipping activation means your tendon takes all the stress.
💡 Tip: Activate and strengthen your muscles before activity.
5️⃣ Poor Movement Mechanics – Improper jumping, landing, or squatting increases tendon stress.
💡 Tip: Quality > quantity. Focus on proper form.
6️⃣ Ignoring Recovery & Load Management – Tendons remodel during rest. Training hard every day without recovery leads to microdamage accumulation.
💡 Tip: Recovery isn’t lazy—it’s part of progress.
7️⃣ Waiting Too Long to Get Checked – Chronic tendon injuries are harder to fix. Early assessment allows targeted rehab and faster recovery.
💡 Tip: Don’t wait weeks—get evaluated if pain persists.
