The OCD Cycle🔄
1. Intrusive thought (obsession)An unwanted, often disturbing thought, image, or urge pops into your mind.
2. Fear / anxietyYour brain treats the thought as important or dangerous, triggering anxiety, guilt, or dread.
3. Compulsion (mental or physical)You do something to try to reduce the anxiety or “fix” the thought.
This could be:
* Checking
* Reassurance seeking
* Repeating phrases in your head
* Avoiding certain situations
* Trying to “figure it out”
4. Temporary relief → then back againThe compulsion lowers anxiety briefly… but it teaches your brain that the thought was dangerous, so the cycle restarts.
