Let’s talk about “just right” OCD. Although not a specific, formally recognized subtype of OCD it is very common and well understood in the OCD community.

This one was highly requested on my tiktok🫶🏼. As always there isn’t a one size fits all for exposure tasks and it’s best to start exposure therapy with a trained therapist. A lot of thought and prep work goes into ERP therapy prior to starting exposures.

I have some super exciting news, which has been one of the hardest secrets I’ve ever had to keep… I’m 23 weeks pregnant with a precious baby girl💗🧸. I’m so excited for this new journey ahead and that I can finally share it with you all.

I have stopped taking on new clients. I’ll be taking 8 months away from seeing my current clients starting mid July. I’ll still be doing the behind the scenes work for my practice during my time away.

Oh and I also eloped with my fav person in January, which is where this pic was taken. ✨

My life’s been nothing short of sweet precious moments lately. I am truly blessed and sooo grateful but I also know I’ve worked so hard to get here. 🫶🏼

Here’s some examples of exposures I do in session with my clients. Prior to starting exposures there is a lot of a prep work and identifying where the client is at so we can engage in this work safely. 🫶🏼

Reassurance: it might help for a little bit but the urge to seek more reassurance returns quickly. This can create a strong urgency for reassurance where people can’t proceed without it.

Ruminating: rumination in OCD can be compulsive and this is what we are wanting to teach clients they can step away from.

Challenging thoughts: OCD compels a person to focus on every detail and possibility, making it nearly impossible to counter their compulsive behaviour/thoughts with logic. Challenging thoughts = logic which an OCD brain cannot latch onto.

Normalizing client compulsions: people with OCD often think their compulsions/fears are “weird, silly, etc.”. We normalize their compulsions/fears. OCD can latch onto pretty much anything.

ROCD exposure examples were highly requested on my TikTok. ROCD is a subtype of OCD that involves intrusive thoughts and compulsions related to our close relationships.

These are examples and should not be used to treat just anyone with ROCD. Exposures created in therapy are carefully curated and considered based on each client. 🫶🏼
