Sitting and standing up straight is easier said than done, especially when many people live a sedentary life with long hours at a desk or behind the wheel. Lounging on the couch for long periods instead of doing physical activity doesn't do much help either. Many people have poor posture, which can result in short-term discomfort as well as long-lasting impacts on a person's health.
When left unchecked, poor posture can lead to spinal and muscle problems, including a misaligned or curved spine, headaches, jaw pain, constricted nerves, and chronic pain. There's also the risk of poor circulation, digestion, and lung function from prolonged poor posture. That's why chiropractors recommend patients strive to correct their posture whenever possible. Proper posture should maintain the natural curves in the spine without increasing them, so the head should be above the shoulders and the shoulders should come over the hips.
Having the right chairs with adequate spinal support at home and work helps, as well as a supportive mattress and a good pair of shoes. Plus, going in for chiropractic treatment is a smart choice for anyone dealing with poor posture.
