Painful ingrown toenail? You’re not alone — and you don’t have to suffer through it.

At Whitby Family Footcare, we treat ingrown toenails every day using safe, gentle, and effective techniques that provide fast relief. Whether your toe is red, swollen, infected, or just too painful to touch, our chiropodists can help you get back to walking comfortably again.

Ingrown toenails can develop from improper nail trimming, tight footwear, curved nails, sports trauma, or even genetics. When the nail edge grows into the surrounding skin, it can cause throbbing pain, swelling, and sometimes infection. The sooner it’s treated, the easier it is to fix.

We offer:
• Conservative care for mild to moderate cases
• Medical nail care & debridement for thick or curved nails
• Partial nail removal for recurring or severe ingrown nails
• Infection management when needed
• Prevention guidance to stop the problem from returning

If you’re noticing persistent pain, redness, swelling, or drainage — or if your child or teen is struggling with an ingrown nail — it’s time to book an appointment.

Your feet deserve expert care.

Foot Pain That Won’t Go Away? Here’s What Your Body Is Telling You

Foot pain doesn’t usually happen “for no reason.” Whether it comes on suddenly or builds gradually, there’s almost always an underlying cause and identifying it early can prevent a small issue from becoming something more serious.

At Whitby Family Footcare, we take an anatomy‑based, hands‑on approach to understanding which structures are irritated (bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, nerves, skin, or nails) and why they became overloaded in the first place. Common contributors include overuse, footwear that doesn’t match your foot type, biomechanical patterns, skin and nail changes, age‑related changes, and medical conditions such as diabetes or arthritis.

A foot problem becomes more serious when it starts affecting your daily life: persistent pain, swelling, numbness, difficulty walking, or recurring symptoms are all signs it’s time for a professional assessment.

Most foot issues are highly treatable when addressed early. A structured assessment helps pinpoint the true cause and guides effective treatment from footwear changes and orthotics to manual therapy, exercise therapy, and skin/nail care.

If something doesn’t feel right, don’t wait for it to worsen. We’re here to help you understand what’s going on and get you back to comfortable movement.

Many patients are surprised when they learn the cost of custom foot orthotics and it’s a completely fair question. At Whitby Family Footcare, we believe in transparency, education, and helping you understand exactly what you’re investing in.

Custom orthotics aren’t the same as store‑bought inserts. They’re prescription medical devices designed to improve how your feet function, reduce strain on your joints, and support long‑term mobility. Each pair begins with a full clinical assessment that includes gait analysis, foot structure evaluation, footwear review, and a detailed look at your symptoms and activity level. This allows us to design a device that matches your mechanics with precision.

Your orthotics are then crafted from a 3D cast impression or a digital scan of your feet using medical‑grade materials and specialized equipment. They’re built to last years — not months — and include follow‑up care, adjustments, and clinical documentation.

But custom isn’t always necessary. That’s why we also offer high‑quality over‑the‑counter (OTC) orthotics for patients who need support but don’t require a fully customized device. During your assessment, we’ll help you choose the option that truly fits your needs, goals, and budget.

If foot pain is slowing you down, we’re here to help you move comfortably again.

Does your child complain of heel pain after sports?
One of the most common causes is calcaneal apophysitis (Sever’s disease) — especially in active kids going through growth spurts.

A typical case we see in clinic is a 12‑year‑old boy who plays soccer in cleats, limping after practices or avoiding running because the back of the heel feels sore.

This happens when the heel’s growth plate becomes irritated from tight calves, rapid growth, and repetitive impact from running and jumping.

Common signs to watch for:
• Pain at the back or sides of the heel
• Limping or toe‑walking
• Pain when the heel is squeezed
• Discomfort after sports
• Worsening pain in firm soccer cleats

The good news? It’s very treatable.
With activity modification, stretching, supportive footwear, and simple in‑clinic strategies, most kids improve within 2–8 weeks.

If your child is limping, avoiding activity, or struggling to get through practices, we can help them get back to playing pain‑free.
