Total Vision Eye Care Optometry office providing eye care to the Durham Region. We welcome all new patients in the Durham Region.

Please note that we are open for exams and to shop in our dispensary, but only by appointment at this time. We are an Optometry practice located in north Whitby in the Taunton Gardens plaza, two doors down from CIBC. We are a family-friendly office that provides a full spectrum of optometric services including full eye examinations, contact lens fittings, pediatric eye exams, diabetic and glaucoma co-management, dry eye therapy, plaquinil screenings and a full-service optical dispensary. Our practice utilizes state-of-the-art technology to assist in the early diagnosis and management of diseases of the eye. Some of our equipment includes: Optical Coherence Tomography (high definition 3D scans of the retina), retinal photography, fundus autofluorescence, and visual field testing.

The cornea is the only part of the human body with no blood supply. Unlike other tissues, it remains crystal clear by absorbing oxygen directly from the air rather than relying on blood circulation.

To stay healthy, the cornea draws oxygen from tear fluid and the aqueous humor, the clear liquid inside the eye that nourishes it. This unique adaptation ensures perfect transparency, allowing light to pass through unobstructed for sharp, clear vision.
However, wearing contact lenses for too long can limit oxygen absorption, leading to hypoxia, a condition where the cornea swells due to lack of oxygen.

So next time you blink, remember your cornea is one of the most remarkable parts of your body, sustaining itself in a way no other tissue does.
