Q: How long have you been working at Amica and your current residence?
A: I’m proud to have been working at Amica White Rock for the past six years. This community has truly become my second home.

Q: What initially drew you to this residence and industry?
A: I was drawn to Amica because of its deep commitment to dignity, respect, and heartfelt care for seniors. I’ve always felt a calling to support others, and senior living has given me the most meaningful way to do that.

Q: What are some of your roles and responsibilities?
A: I oversee the health and wellness of our residents while supporting and mentoring our incredible care team. Every day, I advocate for our residents' well-being, ensuring they feel safe, seen, and valued.

Q: What do you love most about working at Amica?
A: It’s the relationships. The trust families place in us and the stories, laughter, and life shared with residents remind me daily why this work matters so deeply. I also absolutely enjoy working with a team that shares the same values.

Q: Tell us about a time you feel made a difference and owned your impact.
A: I once helped a family navigate a very difficult care transition with compassion and transparency, and to this day they say it brought them peace in a time of uncertainty. Moments like that remind me of the quiet power of presence and empathy.

Q: Any there any special moments, achievements, or milestones you’d like to share?
A: Self and personal growth! Amica was able to see my potential before I saw it myself. I started off as a Wellness Nurse then grew into the Resident Services Coordinator Role and now I am the Director of Wellness. Watching team members I’ve mentored grow into strong leaders and receiving heartfelt thanks from families over the years have been true highlights. It’s in those moments I feel the real impact of our work.

Sous Chef Diego from hosted a cooking demo highlighting a Filipino traditional dessert called ‘Turon’. Made with bananas and jackfruit, the dessert was an absolute hit amongst residents.

They loved it so much, they asked for Turon to be added to the Amica dessert menu! Thank you to Chef Diego for bringing forward this unique recipe. 🍨

Get to know Harold Lemos, our talented Director of Culinary Services at . Harold brings passion and creativity to every meal he prepares for our residents. Learn more about his career journey and the difference he makes every day:

Q: How long have you been working at Amica and your current residence?
A: I have been at Amica White Rock since I was hired in July 2022 – just shy of 3 years.

Q: What initially drew you to this residence and industry?
A: More recently we were dealt the task of caring for an aging parent, that helped fuel the need for better understanding of senior living.

Q: What are some of your roles and responsibilities?
A: Ensuring that our residents are offered healthy, wholesome, nutritious meals that contribute to their overall wellbeing. Mealtime is the time when we communally get together to share valuable time & the dining room provides the perfect opportunity for our residents.

Q: What do you love most about working at Amica?
A: The team, with very similar goals but still very different in what we do to achieve the same end goal – resident satisfaction & wellbeing.

Q: Tell us about a time you feel that you made a difference and owned your impact.
A: In my role as a DCS, I believe it is very important to listen to any feedback given by residents. A resident recently spoke of a meal experience as being “awful” listing several reasons. I took the time to patiently listen to him, apologized for the bad experience and promised that I would ensure he would be looked after. That very same day after a BBQ meal the same resident asked for me to see him only to say, “it was the best meal that he had ever had”. When we make time to listen to feedback though not necessarily positive, it can have huge impacts.

Q: Any there any special moments, achievements, or milestones you’d like to share?
A: Too many to list. However, one time a resident requested their favourite meal and we were able to offer it to them. That was quite special and the gratitude they expressed was very humbling.
