It is amazing that there are 70 more therapists helping in the Ukraine with PTSD clients.
There are more therapists trained in the Ukraine in 1 weekend than in the USA in the past 15 years.
More than 40% of Ukrainians have post-traumatic stress disorder due to the conflict ensued by Russia’s invasion. Our director Pr. Alain Brunet travelled to Ukraine last week to provide NATO-led intensive training in the treatment of trauma-related disorders.
Mental health professionals from across Ukraine attended as a part of a trauma conference at the National Medical University of Ivano-Frankivsk, a city whose streets are lined with commemorative pictures of locals whose lives were taken in the war.
A power plant just 30km from the training location was attacked by Russian drones last Friday. The conference still proceeded that day with attendees bunkering together and using generators to go online with remote delegates. This was just a small insight into the ongoing hardships and determination of the Ukrainian people.
Alain equipped 70 clinicians to provide Reconsolidation Therapy to Ukrainian civilians and military personnel. The therapy is an emerging first-line treatment that can give relief to a large percentage of trauma survivors within a short timeframe.
Alain described it as a once in a lifetime experience of "meeting extremely courageous people fighting for freedom and dignity".
