❄️👂 Winter Sound Walks: A Mindful Way to Reset
A winter sound walk invites us to slow down and listen — the crunch of snow under our boots, the wind in the trees, or the quiet calm of the season. Tuning into sounds helps reduce stress, improve focus, and support emotional regulation for both children and adults.

It’s a simple, no-cost way to practice mindfulness, connect with nature, and care for our mental well-being during the busy winter months.

Wishing everyone a safe and cozy Christmas Day, full of love and connection!🎄❄️🎁

❄️🖐️ Why Sensory Play Matters
Sensory activities — like making DIY “fake snow” — help children explore textures, build focus, and regulate emotions. These hands-on experiences can support self-calming, creativity, and stress relief, while also encouraging curiosity and play.

Sensory play doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive — simple activities at home can make a big difference for a child’s mental health and well-being.

The holidays are meant to help us slow down and appreciate what we have.

However, for many kids, this season can quickly turn into what is next, looking for more, comparison games, etc. We will share tips from our friends at Big Life Journal this week to help our family prioritize gratitude this holiday season.

One of our school families has faced a devastating loss. If you’re able to help with donations or support, please reach out to Whitecourt Central School. Together, we can show this family they are not alone.

Parents, Guardians, and Members of our School Community,

We are writing to share that one of our school families has recently experienced a devastating loss due to a structure fire that resulted in the loss of their home. During this incredibly difficult time, we are coming together as a school community to offer care, compassion, and practical support.

Their son, Tristan, is a valued member of our school and is currently in Grade 5. In response, our school is organizing both a fundraising effort and a donation drive to help support the family as they begin the process of rebuilding.

If you are in a position to assist, we are currently accepting donations of the following items for Tristan:

Boys’ clothing, size 10–12

In addition, monetary donations/gift cards will be collected to help the family with immediate and ongoing needs resulting from the loss of their home. Any donations can be dropped off at the school's main office.

We understand that not everyone may be able to give, and that is completely okay. Your kindness, well wishes, and support, whether big or small, mean a great deal. We also ask that the family’s privacy be respected as they navigate this challenging time.

Thank you for being such a caring and supportive school community.

Together, we can help remind this family that they are not alone.
