Yukon community health nurses support families with new babies with a comprehensive post-partum support program.

All Yukon families with new babies are invited to take advantage of these funded services and programs. Participation is voluntary and families can access their local health centre for support and resources.

This program includes:
• Post-partum visiting services that can be accessed in-person either at the health center or in the families home, by telephone, or virtually.
• Feeding support.
• Teaching and guidance with access to reputable resources.
• Referral to other support services.
• Nurses that can offer helpful advice and support.

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak in the community, Yukon’s hospitals have limited visitor access and some services for the next two weeks.

🚫 No visitors or support people are allowed except in limited circumstances—for births, on compassionate grounds, and in situations requiring a substitute decision-maker.

⌚️ Some non-urgent services such as scheduled surgeries and lab test appointments will be postponed.

Midwifery regulations come into effect today.............but this does not mean we are there yet. It has to be implemented by Yukon Government.

Join the YABC and lend them your support and keep YG accountable to their 2016 election promise of regulated and funded midwifery.

We'd like to recognize the years of hard work and dedication that went into the Midwifery Regulations and Standards, which take effect today. Thank you to everyone that has given their time and energy to get us to this day.

But we're not there yet!! In fact, before today Yukoners could hire a private Midwife, and today they can not. Before today, Yukoners had a choice in their birthing options and today they do not.

While this lapse in Midwifery services was foreseeable, YABC continues working hard to keep the time Yukoners are denied access to a Midwife as short as possible.

Please join us in holding YTG to their 2016 promise of Regulated and Funded Midwifery. Join our association! We're currently running a membership giveaway. All 2021 members will be entered for a chance to win a sweet prize, with goodies from Due North Maternity and Baby!

Don’t worry Sophie from Physio Borealis is not going anywhere, she’s just changing her business name to Beyond Birthing to better reflect what she does ❤️

ANNOUNCEMENT: My dear friends, I would like to announce an important and exciting change about my clinic!! Indeed, as of next week, my new clinic name will be changed for BEYOND BIRTHING 💕💜💕
There are several reasons why I made this decision.
- First, I wanted my business name to reflect my new focus in pre and postnatal care.
- Second, with my new online project (Beyond Birthing Youtube Channel, upcoming e-books & e-classes for mammas), it made more sense to have everything under the same umbrella. This way I will only manage one website, one FB / insta / Youtube account, one email address, etc.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR MY CLIENTS?
As of next Wednesday, Physio Borealis will be swapped for "Beyond Birthing" on Google Maps - so if you are a new client looking for my clinic's directions, please rely on the emails from my online booking :)

I will also change my Insta account to and this FB page will become Beyond Birthing.

Otherwise, my website & email will redirect you automatically to the new ones for a year, so it will give people time to get used to it :)

Ouff what a big change, but I am feeling good about it!!!
Thanks for supporting me :)

All about newborn weight loss after birth. New information about how 8-10% loss of birth weight in breastfed babies is normal.

Among the many nerve-racking moments besetting new mothers as they navigate parenthood is the short period of weight loss that baby experiences in the 1-2 weeks after birth. The American Academy of Pediatrics and other groups have conventionally recommended that infants should not lose more than seven percent of their birth weight during this time – and that any amount above this threshold requires supplementing breastmilk with formula to help baby gain weight.

Now this stress-inducing standard has come into question with a groundbreaking study by University of Rhode Island professor Diane DiTomasso, who was recently awarded the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses’ premier award for her work challenging expected patterns of infant weight loss after birth.

Read this week's post to learn more about Dr DiTomasso's research: http://terralife.ca/challenging-the-seven-percent-weight-loss-rule-for-newborn-breast-feeding-infants/
