Seasons in the Yukon can change in the blink of an eye, so it’s important to stay prepared for whatever the weather throws at you! ❄️🌤️

Here’s how to be prepared:

🌡 Check before you go. Review the latest weather forecasts and road conditions, and make sure your emergency plan is up to date.

🛠 Pack your essentials. Keep an emergency kit handy and have a reliable way to stay in touch.

☀ Know your surroundings. Whether it’s ice melt in spring, freeze-up in fall, or a blizzard, plan ahead for where you’re working.

Yukon winters mean dark days, cold nights and lots of extra lights and heaters keeping us warm. ⚡ More plugs can also mean more electrical hazards, so keep these quick tips in mind:

🔌 Don’t overload power strips. Too many plugs = overheating risk.

⭐ Use certified cords and strips. Look for UL or CE labels and keep the tags.

☀ Keep cords away from heat. Space heaters and woodstoves don’t mix with wires.

🔥 One power strip per outlet. Never plug one power strip into another.

💧 Keep cords dry. Use GFCI outlets in damp or snowy areas.

⚡ Plug high-watt devices directly into the wall.

Employers: make sure everyone on your team knows how to use power safely this winter. Stay warm and stay safe! ❄️

❄️ Yukon winters can make the commute to work tricky. Ice, snow and low light mean it’s time to brush up on winter driving safety.

Here are some quick tips to help you arrive safely at work:
🚗 Clear your vehicle. Remove snow and ice from your windshield, windows, mirrors, lights and roof. Having a clear view, free of flying snow is key for your safety, and others’.
⚫ Check your tires. Make sure they have good tread and are properly inflated. Winter tires can make a huge difference on slippery roads.
🐢 Take it slow. Leave extra time for your commute. Ice and snow reduce traction, so give yourself plenty of distance to stop safely.
💡 Stay visible and alert. Use headlights, watch for black ice and remember conditions can change fast in the Yukon.

A little preparation makes a big difference in getting to work safely and keeping everyone on the job site safe too. ❄️🚙

Winter is here, bringing shorter days and colder temperatures. Here in the Yukon, that can really take a toll if we’re not careful. ❄️

☀ Catch the light. Even a quick daytime walk can lift your spirits, give you some Vitamin D and get your blood flowing.
🧣 Bundle up. Layers are your best friend when heading outside. They keep you comfy and ready for whatever the weather throws at you.
⛸ Practice self-care. Yukon winters are long, so make time for what you love. Try new activities, get a bit of extra sleep and enjoy comforting foods that nourish your body.
♥ Stay connected. Winter isolation is real, so reach out! Take a walk with a friend, grab a coffee at a local café, or volunteer in your community. Even small interactions make a big difference!

Small steps each day can go a long way in keeping your mood and energy up all winter. Embrace the season, and take care of yourself.

Winter has officially arrived, and with it comes freezing temps and frosty mornings! Sure, Yukoners are used to cold winters, but that doesn’t mean we’re immune to the risks that come with working in extreme cold.

Here are a few quick tips to help you stay warm and protected this season:

🧣 Dress in layers so you can easily adjust as your body warms up. Don’t forget to cover your hands, feet, and head — they’re the first to feel the chill.

🌡 Head inside or into a heated space regularly to ward off frostbite and hypothermia. Employers can help by setting up windbreaks or warm shelters on-site.

❄ When possible, set temperature cut-offs to reduce exposure. Remember, wind chill counts!

🥶 Stay alert for symptoms of frostbite or hypothermia in yourself and your coworkers. Acting fast can make all the difference.

Winter in the Yukon means it’s time to clear your gutters, hang holiday lights, or remove snow from the roof, but climbing a ladder in icy conditions can be risky! 🧗‍♂️❄️ Stay safe this season with these tips:

⚠ Check it first. Inspect your ladder for any cracks, wear, or damage before you climb.
🏠 Pick the right ladder. Make sure it’s the proper type and tall enough for the job.
❄ Set it up safely. Place your ladder on stable, level ground and clear away ice, snow, or debris.
👞 Footwear matters. Wear clean, slip-resistant shoes to keep your footing secure.
3️⃣ Keep three points of contact. Two hands and one foot (or two feet and one hand) at all times. Don’t climb higher than the third or fourth rung from the top.
👷 Have a spotter. A second pair of eyes and hands can help keep your ladder steady.

A little caution goes a long way in keeping you upright and injury-free. For more tips, check out our Ladder Safety Talk at www.wcb.yk.ca/safetytalks

Yukon winters are beautiful, but they can be slippery! Ice, snow and frost can turn even a short walk into a tricky adventure. Here’s how to stay on your feet this season:

👢 Wear the right boots. Good traction makes a big difference on icy sidewalks and parking lots.
🕖 Take it slow. Shorten your stride, walk like a penguin and keep your hands free to help keep your balance.
🚶 Watch where you step. Keep an eye out for black ice, uneven surfaces, and snow piles.
🧹 Clear your path. Shovel snow, spread sand or salt, and encourage others to do the same.
💡 Light it up. Winter days are short, make sure walkways and entrances are well lit.

A little caution goes a long way in keeping you upright and enjoying all the beauty the Yukon winter has to offer! 🌨️

Yukon winters mean dark mornings and darker evenings, making it harder for drivers to see you on the roads. 🌙

Employers: if your workers are outdoors, it’s your responsibility to provide personal protective equipment that keeps them visible and safe.

Be safe, be seen:
🦺 Wear high-visibility or reflective clothing and accessories.
🔦 Carry a flashlight or use your phone’s light when walking in the dark.
🚶‍♂️ Stick to well-lit paths, sidewalks and crosswalks whenever possible.

A few simple steps can help reduce the risk of injuries. Keep your workers visible and safe this winter.
