This is Tampopo story 2022-2026
Tampopo is a miracle goose. If you haven’t heard our goose story yet, here’s a sum-up: from a rare niche heritage breed, we went years without success in breeding them.
Although, one day in 2022, as I was working on our taxes, and we were head down into baby lambs, chicks, ducks, and seedlings, I heard a noise in the incubator, and it reminded me that I fell out of daily practice to change and refill the water in it to keep the moisture up…but there was only two geese eggs left and they were not showing signs of anything, once again.
Even though it must have seemed silly to keep the incubator running and hoping for a miracle, I just kept at it, a bit neglectfully.
But on that office day, sitting in front of the computer for hours, working numbers, I heard a noise coming from the incubator and it reminded me to change and refill the water…just in case…
As I opened the door to take the water container, I saw that little miracle: a fresh new gosling! Our very first baby goose ever.
Tampopo was born. She was a miracle gift. We raised her in the house until she was big enough to join her parents: Alice & Claude.
Tampopo means dandelion in Japanese, it comes from a children book I was reading regularly to the boys at the time.
Tampopo was the most gentle goose, and lucky me (Julie) she was so docile to me, she bonded so well, that she was even laying eggs just for me.
We don’t know how she passed away. I found her laying down in the snow, no blood, no wounds.
We are very saddened to have lost such an incredible gentle miraculous goose.
I’m missing her very much already.
It’s life on the farm they say…it’s the price to pay to love your animals and bond with them.
I hope one day, you know a goose like Tampopo 🩶
