June 18, 1930 – January 24, 2021

Maurice was the fourth child born to Oswald and Kate Burke in Kelowna BC.
Maurice moved to Williams Lake in 1954, where he began his proud and beloved trucking career. He travelled many places, made lots of stops, had a lot of laughs and made lots of friends along the way.

Maurice drove for many great people hauling lumber and moving machines around the Cariboo Chilcotin and places beyond up until he bought his first truck in the early 70s to which he started his logging truck company Maurice Burke Contracting.

Blacky drove up until he was 70 years old but continued to help Pat and Wayne at the shop maintaining the trucks. The company now Maurice Burke & Sons has just the one truck operated by Ross.

It didn’t matter who you were or where you came from, Blacky always had a joke or a good story to tell. Many friends liked to consider him family and that’s just how loving and caring Maurice was. His infectious smile and powerful laugh will never be forgotten. Forever in our hearts.

Maurice leaves behind Wife Audrey, Sons and Daughters Patrick (Joan), Della (Mark), Wayne (Caroline), Ross (Tracy), Tana. Sisters Muriel McFaddin, Eileen Bucsis, Diane (Lou) Matsuda. Grandkids Dean (Jen), Martina, Amy (Kenny), Shane, Thomas, Clay, Jeff (Marina), John, Trudi, Brent, Montana and Michelyn.

Great Grandkids Lauren, Veyda, Ashton, Emery, Keistyn, Kensley, Faith, Grace, Holly, Robert, Micheal, Ava, and Gage. Also many loved Nieces and Nephews. Predeceased by his Mother and Father, Siblings John, Don, Patrica, and Barbara.

There will be a celebration of life when we can gather together at a later date.

AUDREY BURKE (nee Kinvig)

January 21,1936 - September 19, 2023

The Burke Family is saddened to announce the passing of Audrey on September 19, 2023 at Cariboo Memorial Hospital. Audrey was born in Williams Lake to Edwin & Mable Kinvig of Miocene. She was the 4th girl in the family of 5 daughters and spent her childhood and youth playing and working on the family ranch. Audrey was predeceased by her husband Maurice, her parents and her sisters, Mable Brown and Irene Eckert.

Audrey met Maurice Burke while working in Miocene and they married in 1956. They settled in the Kootenays before moving to Kelowna where they started their family. In 1963 the Cariboo called Audrey back home where her and Maurice resided until their passing.

Audrey was a dedicated mother and spent countless hours at the arena working in the concession and sewing many figure skating costumes. She was a member of the Princess Pine Chapter #67 Order of the Eastern Star and a long time volunteer of Jobs Daughters. Audrey loved a good bazar and always participated and contributed many beautiful projects. She was an active member of Cariboo Lanes and bowled into her early 80’s.

“Mrs Burke” always had an open door and will be fondly remembered for her kindness, warm welcome and caring hugs.

Audrey leaves to mourn her sisters, Shirley Crosina, June Eckert, and her loving children, Patrick (Joan), Della (Mark) Boothby, Wayne (Caroline), Ross (Tracy), and Tana. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She was a very special Auntie to numerous nieces & nephews, a loving cousin and an adopted mother to many.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Audrey & Maurice Burke on October 14, 2023 @ 1:00 pm at the Cariboo Bethel Church lower level.
