Are you a tense person? ✅

Have you been told you are tight or hold your stress in certain muscles? ✅

Did you know this tension can affect your breathing and pelvic floor function ⁉️

Many women and men hold a lot of tension in their abdominals and pelvic floor. This happens for many different reasons:
- we try to hold in our “bellies”
- we guard our muscles due to chronic pain
- we have developed dysfunctional breathing patterns

To avoid this tension and dysfunction, it is important to DEEP BELLY BREATHE 💨 to make our diaphragm and pelvic floor work together. This deep breath actually STRETCHES our pelvic floor muscles and helps them function properly 💪🏻.

Any questions? Call our clinic at 613-774-4505 to speak to our Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist, Emily Wicks.

April is Caesarean Awareness month 💗

Did any of you Mommas out there have a caesarean birth? 🌸

After a c-section, much of the healing can feel out of your control. However, there is one simple activity that can be used to help avoid short and long-term complications- SCAR WORK!

C-section scar work is so important to help with skin mobility and proper abdominal muscle function. It also helps avoid complications like low back pain, pelvic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, and the list goes on.

Once your scar is completely healed (usually around 6 weeks, but make sure to get an ok from a health care professional first!), follow these easy techniques to help break down and soften scar tissue 🙌🏼

Are you pre or post-partum❓
Do you enjoy going for massages ⁉️

Then prenatal massage is probably for you🤰🏼🙋🏻‍♀️

Prenatal massage is a great way to help a mother-to-be’s body adjust to the dramatic changes it undergoes during pregnancy.

Whether you are experiencing pain and muscle tension or stress and anxiety, massage therapy can help with the physical and emotional changes associated with growing a little human 👼🏼

Contact our clinic with any questions or to book an appointment with our Registered Massage Therapist specialized in prenatal massage, Robyn Devries.

Doming or bulging in your abdomen❓
Think you make have diastasis recti ⁉️
WHAT IS diastasis recti ⁉️

Diastasis recti or commonly referred to as a “belly gap” is a separation of the left and right re**us abdominus muscle.

It commonly occurs in women post-partum and those with multiple pregnancies, twins, or a long pushing stage have an increased risk. 👶🏼👶🏼

Diastasis, however, may happen in men as well and may occur as a result of chronic constipation, overuse of abdominal muscles, or abdominal surgery.

If you suspect that you may have a diastasis recti or would like to be assessed, see a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist.

Like many other muscular dysfunctions, with certain training and exercises, this gap can be minimized. 🙌🏼

Pre or post-partum❓

Pelvic health physiotherapy is indicated for many different issues, especially when the pelvic floor muscles are dysfunctional or have been damaged.

This is EXTREMELY common for post-partum moms.

Pregnancy and birth both cause a multitude of changes to a woman’s body: our center of gravity shifts, we gain weight rapidly, ligaments become more lax, our tissues and body structures expand, and our pelvic floor muscles go through injury and trauma to give birth to a not so tiny human (to name a few)!

Rehabbing these muscles is imperative to regain a healthy core and to prevent dysfunction of the pelvic floor and surrounding body structures 💪🏻

Read this article for more information regarding Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy post-partum 💗💙

Going to a physical therapist (PT) after pregnancy and childbirth isn’t standardized care in America, but it absolutely should be.I sat down with three therapists at Body Connect Health & Wellness (where I get treatment) to learn more about why every mom should check in with a pelvic PT at

To Kegel Or Not To Kegel ⁉️

Kegels can be a great exercise to strengthen the pelvic floor and to help treat certain pelvic floor dysfunctions.

HOWEVER, kegels are not always indicated and can sometimes do more HARM than GOOD.

IN FACT, many women and men do kegels incorrectly unless properly assessed by a trained professional.

It is FANTASTIC that women and men are trying to take better care of their pelvic floor and inner core, but PLEASE get assessed by your Gynaecologist or Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist FIRST.
