National Volunteer Week!

Girl Guides Canada Windsor Troop came to our home last 16th of April to kick off the 2026 National Volunteer Week celebration! The group voted to come to Berkshire to have an opportunity to help the elderly for a community service patch. Thank you for choosing our home.

Currently, the home has catered to more than a dozen of volunteers from different schools and high schools across Windsor-Essex just this year. In addition, the home is in partnership with St. Clair College School of Community Studies And Canadore College. We have 4 college students volunteering at Berkshire, harnessing the best experience and guided knowledge from our team of leaders and preceptors.

Berkshire joined other LTC homes across Windsor in sharing ideas to bridge connection, empower the community in fighting ageism and sharing knowledge through the Green Bench Elder Wisdom hosted by the Social Service Worker Gerontology students of St. Clair College. The day was filled with wonderful games, zumba sessions and productive conversations among students, visitors and exhibitors. Our home presented the BSTU (Behavioral Supports Transition Unit) which is the first in Windsor-Essex. We encouraged the visitors to understand the need to support residents in their most challenging behaviors and how our home provides the utmost care as they transition to the right long-term care settings.

Our residents' felt nostalgic as they danced the 60s, 70s and 80s hits on the first hour. The second hour, we introduced pop disco hits while enjoying mocktails and pizza. What a night!! 💃🕺
