How often should you visit an OMP? It depends!

For some people with minor injuries or discomfort, one or two sessions might make a big difference. For others with chronic pain, recurring injuries or long-term health conditions, regular sessions may be optimal.

Regardless of your reason for visiting, your OMP will work closely with you to understand your condition and desired outcomes to develop a care plan that works best for you.

How does keep you moving?

Osteopathy is a distinct manual therapy that is based on understanding the relationship between structure and function in the body. Osteopathic manual practitioners recognize the person as an integrated whole, and work with clients to strengthen and restore body’s structures and systems. Because osteopathy is a client-centered discipline, treatment plans are developed to address individual needs and goals.

that the Osteopathic approach to treatment is subtle and ? Using various manual techniques like stretching, gentle pressure and resistance, osteopathic manual practitioners assess clients and work collaboratively with them to develop a treatment plan suitable to their needs to strengthen and restore the body’s natural function.

Rather than focusing on one specific area, OMPs take a whole-body approach and work to ease restrictions, relieve pain, reduce swelling and improve tissue mobility, all while encouraging the body to self-heal.

Osteopathy dates back to the 1800s? Andrew Taylor Still, the founder of osteopathy and osteopathic medicine, believed that the body is in good health when the musculoskeletal systems are properly aligned. Dr. Still called his practice “osteopathy,” combining the two Greek roots for bone – osteon – and suffering – pathos.

In 1892, Dr. Still opened the first osteopathic medical school in the world, the American School of Osteopathy in Missouri, now known as the A.T Still University (ATSU). Since its founding, the practice of osteopathy and support for its students has continued to grow. The OAO is committed to fostering the practice and the professional advancement of its practitioners.
