“Just take 6 weeks off and rest.”

Sound familiar?

Many injured runners, upon seeing their healthcare provider, are told to stop running when they come in complaining of an injury.

While in some cases rest is needed (think stress fracture, for example), often times we can modify training volume, running form, or strength/mobility, and keep you running!

This is more beneficial than simply stopping, as it prevents deconditioning and helps you to get back to your previous level of training a lot quicker.

Not sure how to do this?

Ask a provider who is specifically trained to treat runners!

🏃🏽‍♀️ Happy Global Running Day!

Running has brought me so much ... making new friends, overcoming injuries, and learning just how strong I am. I am so thankful that I have the ability to lace up my shoes and run.

Tips for Running a Virtual Race

Just because we can’t race like we used to doesn’t mean that we can’t still challenge ourselves, hit a PR, or raise money for a good cause.

Haven’t run a virtual race before? Check out these tips below!

1. Plan your course ahead of time. Use MapMyRun.com to plan out the exact distance for your race, or use a known loop that you’ve run before

2. Run a course that you’ve trained for. Haven’t done any hills in training? Pick a flat course! Want to challenge yourself? Pick a trail that has a few hills.

3. Run at your favourite time of day. The awesome part about a virtual race is that you get to pick when and where you run. Not a morning person? Sleep in and start the race after you’ve had a cup of coffee (or two).

4. Track your run. Use a GPS watch or app like Strava to track how far you’ve run so that you can get an accurate distance and time.

5. Have a crew. If possible, have members of your household help you out. They can bring water, signs, and cheers!

6. Most importantly - HAVE FUN! And celebrate your accomplishment when you’re done 🍩🍕🍻

💧 Let’s talk about water!

We all know that we need to drink water, but how do we make sure we’re getting enough through the day?

I’ve found since having to wear a mask all day, I’m drinking less water than I did before because removing the mask, washing hands, drinking, putting mask back on, and washing hands again is a laborious process!

Some tricks I’ve found that help me get my H2O:
🔹giant cups! This isn’t an ad for Starbucks 😛 but I do love their giant tumblers! I try to drink at least 2 during my work day
🔹straws - making it easier to drink out of makes it more likely that I’ll take a sip
🔹setting a goal - be specific! How much do you want to aim for a day? I try for at least 3L, but everyone will have different needs depending on your body and activity levels
🔹track it! There are a bunch of apps you can download that make it super easy to mark down what you’re drinking, and you can see improvement over time

Let me know - what tricks and tips do you use to hit your water goals? 💦
