He’s homeless, but his cat isn’t a stray.

On New Year’s Eve, I went out for a walk. In weather this bitterly cold, I saw a homeless man sleeping on the sidewalk, covered with a thin blanket, with a flimsy pad under him that I have no idea where it came from.

The only companion by his side was a tabby cat. When I leaned in for a closer look, the cat was purring, sleeping soundly right next to its owner.

Tabby cats are born wanderers. Maybe to him, being able to stay by his owner’s side was already enough. He didn’t understand that he was homeless—he only knew he’d followed his owner to so many places.
