I love the warm weather we are having 🥰

I can’t say the same is true for anyone going through menopause though. It’s a little hard to enjoy the warm weather when you already have the internal fire cranked up to 10, right?

Did you know a herb you most likely have in your kitchen can help with hot flushes and night sweats?

In clinical studies, sage has been shown to help reduce hot flushes and night sweats associated with menopause.

You might want to make yourself a cup of sage tea (drink it cold, of course) and see how you feel.

Your hot flushes and night sweats may thank me later!

Calcium and magnesium are commonly known as the minerals needed for teeth 🦷 and bone 🦴 health, but they do so much more than that for us!

Calcium and Magnesium have been shown to help with both PMS symptoms and the low back and pelvic pain that occurs with periods.

If this sounds like you, perhaps these minerals are worth a try?

We all have our routine when it comes to period pain, but that doesn’t mean we have to reach for pain medication at the first sign of period cramps.

As promised, here are a few things you can do at home to help yourself:

✔︎ Rest. It is okay to rest. Give yourself permission to do so while you are in pain.
✔︎ Ginger. Research has shown it helps with period cramps and reduces heavy flow.
✔︎ Heating pad or a warm shower. Heat is both comforting and helps reduce uterine spasms.
✔︎ Omega 3’s. Research shows these also help with period cramps. Food sources include nuts, seeds, and fish.
✔︎ Exercise. It seems counterintuitive but actually helps with period cramps.

Don’t get me wrong - Advil has been a saving grace at times.

But let’s get one thing straight - if you have period cramps, have tried all the above and still find you need to reach for medication, it’s time to look into WHY you have period pain in the first place.

Do you use any of the above?

It’s considered normal to experience pain and cramping when you’re on your period.

We all seem to have it and consider those that don’t “lucky”.

But are they?

No they aren’t. NO pain is the way it’s supposed to be!

Period pain is a signal that something is missing - whether it be vitamins or minerals. Or, it could be an overly stressed system - a need for rest and/or movement.

Have period pain? Stay tuned for my next post.

You don’t have to use only naturopathic or conventional treatment options.

You can have both. If someone tells you that you can’t, they are wrong.

You deserve both options 💞

A PCOS diagnosis can seem like there is little hope in changing your fertility trajectory or that you might end up with diabetes.

I hear this frequently - “I was offered birth control, metformin and fertility drugs. Is there anything else?”

There are other options available.

Naturopathic medicine can help get to the root cause, and help you change the lifestyle habits that create an environment where PCOS can cause many troublesome symptoms.

PCOS is a stand alone diagnosis until it isn’t. It’s associated with:
- Diabetes
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- Obstructive sleep apnea
- Anxiety & depression
- Vitamin D deficiency

If you have PCOS and don’t know your status on these other conditions, it’s time to have your practitioner screen you for them. If they don’t, it’s time to find someone who can.
