Today, we recognize World Kidney Day, a global reminder of the importance of kidney health and the incredible teams who care for patients with kidney disease.

We are extremely proud of the community outreach we continue to accomplish with this partnership with Windsor Police Service.

The Nurse Police Team (NPT) continues to make a big impact, responding to 510 calls for service between January 1 and March 9, 2026.

During that time, the team:

- Diverted 138 individuals from the Emergency Department (a 65% increase from last year)

- Made 90 referrals to substance use and mental health providers (a 56% increase)

- Addressed 33 substance-related wounds (a 32% increase)

- Distributed 140 harm reduction kits (a 98% increase)

These results highlight the NPT’s expanding role in supporting vulnerable individuals, connecting them to care, and reducing pressure on hospital emergency departments.

The NPT is a partnership between the Windsor Police Service and Windsor Regional Hospital that pairs a police officer with a registered nurse to respond to calls involving substance use and other health concerns.

We encourage the whole community - individuals, local businesses and schools - to wear your most creative headwear as a demonstration of your commitment to advancing local healthcare!

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends and colleagues of Jenni, who was known to many of our hospital emergency staff.
