As a result of a predicted increase in influenza, COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses in our community, Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) IS updating its masking protocols.

Effective Monday, December 15th at 12:01 a.m., employees, professional staff, and volunteers are required to wear masks when within two metres of any patient. Additional personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gowns and eye protection, may be required for specific patients as additional precautions, or when a unit is experiencing an outbreak. Signage will be posted on these rooms or units to inform all those who enter about PPE requirements.

We also recommend that visitors mask when within two metres of patients. With the exception of symptomatic patients, masking is not required in non-clinical areas, such as main lobbies, waiting areas, cafeterias, and elevators. Masking is highly recommended for visitors and patients in waiting rooms and lounges in high-risk areas such as Dialysis, the Emergency Department and the Cancer Centre.

Today, we mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women honouring the 14 victims of the École Polytechnique massacre which took place on December 6, 1989.

We emphasize our dedication to fighting the hatred that led to this tragedy.

Thank you Doug Biekx for performing at our Ouellette Campus today as part of our Sounds of Wellness music series. Hailing from Leamington, Doug is a self-taught musician who began his musical journey at age 16. He first experimented with keyboard, later picking up guitar and drums, but ultimately found his groove with vocals, guitar, and harmonica. Doug draws inspiration from an eclectic mix of rock and folk legends, including The Beatles, Johnny Cash, and Neil Young.

Windsor Regional Hospital and the Windsor-Essex County HEALTH UNIT are offering Prenatal Breastfeeding Classes the second Thursday of each month. There are still spots remaining for the December 11th class.

This two hour class will teach mothers everything they need to know to prepare for breastfeeding — parenting partners are
