Unfortunately due to Government inaction for 30+ years (under-funding for primary eye care) we have no option but to decline examinations for OHIP covered patients (under 20 years old, over 65 years old, and between 20 and 64 with certain medical conditions e.g. diabetes, glaucoma etc) effective September 1st.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and your family.
If, like us, you are outraged at this situation we kindly ask that you direct your anger / frustration at your MPP, and sign the online petition (www.SaveEyeCare.ca). The more people who speak up, the faster the Government will have to act to finally rectify this situation.
We are still able to examine patients between 20 and 64 years old who do not have their eye examinations usually covered by OHIP (i.e. pay for their examination using private insurance / cash etc).
Notwithstanding the above, if you are experiencing an eye emergency, please reach out to us at 519-250-0808 or DevonshireOptometry.Reception@Gmail.com for triage. OHIP patients will likely be redirected to a local walk-in clinic, family doctor or emergency department (depending on the severity of the condition), everyone else we can still examine and treat as usual.
Please show your support for Ontario Optometrists (eye care in your community) and help end Government under-funding for the past 3 decades. Please call your MPP today and sign the petition at www.SaveEyeCare.ca
We look forward to being able to resume normal Optometric services in the near future.
Sincerely,
Dr Ed Gilmore
Dr Zora Juricic
Dr Eni Okaj
