On World Mental Health Day, we celebrate the fact that caring for our mental health is just as important as caring for our physical health.

Every day, we see how healing begins when people are met with compassion, understanding, and access to support.

Everyone deserves good mental health. Including you! 💚

On September 30, we honour the children who never returned home and the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities.

Known as both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, this day was inspired by the story of Phyllis Webstad. Her orange shirt has become a symbol of the losses Indigenous children endured — and a call to remember, learn, and heal together. 🧡

We also recognize the lasting intergenerational impacts of residential schools, and the responsibility we all share to support healing and reconciliation for generations to come.

We had an incredible time celebrating Fête Francophone! 🎉

For FSWE, this was the perfect opportunity to celebrate French language, culture, and community — and to mark the 50th anniversary of the Franco-Ontarian flag.

✨ Thank you to everyone who joined us for music, food, laughter, and connection.
✨ A special merci to our community partners and performers for making the day so memorable.

Most importantly, FSWE was proud to reaffirm our commitment to removing barriers to care for the Francophone community — ensuring every client can access the support they need, when they need it, in the language of their choice.

📸 Check out some highlights from the celebration!

We had an amazing time celebrating pride this past weekend! Team FSWE proudly marched in the parade, and set up shop in Lanspeary Park to share our mission and connect with the community. ✨

This year, we brought something new – our Photobooth Cutout! It was a hit, and we loved seeing everyone’s smiles as they stopped by to snap a photo and learn more about FSWE.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us!!

Earlier today, FSWE was honoured to welcome MPP Andrew Dowie PC, Windsor-Tecumseh to recognize a $34,500 Seed Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation

This investment has allowed us to upgrade our finance and accounting software for our Voluntary Trusteeship Program, which supports over 450 individuals annually as they work toward financial stability.

“Thanks to this support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we’ve been able to upgrade our finance systems and improve how we serve the community,” said Ciara Holmes, Acting Executive Director of FSWE. “These improvements make our processes faster and more efficient—freeing up staff time to focus on what matters most: working directly with the people we serve."

Thank you to MPP Andrew Dowie and OTF representative, Shaun Dass for joining us to celebrate this important outcome —and to OTF for investing in a more financially resilient community.

Need to Talk? We can Help.

Family Services Windsor-Essex (FSWE) is a non-profit, charitable organization serving Windsor and Essex County. We provide counselling and support services to help individuals, couples and families manage their daily lives.

We help people deal with a wide range of challenges, from arising issues, to past events, as well as injustices such as trauma, poverty, disabilities, exclusion and discrimination. We provide strategies to resolve conflicts, address personal problems and help people live their lives independently in the community.

Our Goal is to help each person reach their potential as independent, active individuals in our community, so they can: better manage their daily life, become more resilient when facing challenges, and choose how they will participate in the community.
