I had the pleasure of teaching the Graston Technique - Essentials Course in Cleveland, OH, USA this past weekend. It was an incredibly dedicated group of clinicians who not only learned the fundamentals but also demonstrated a strong commitment to mastering the assessment and application of this powerful treatment method.
What is the Graston Technique?
The Graston Technique is an advanced form of Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM). It uses six specially designed, stainless steel instruments to effectively locate and treat areas of scar tissue or fascial restrictions in the body. These instruments act as an extension of the clinician's hands, allowing for a precise detection of soft tissue dysfunction.
During treatment, the clinician uses the instruments with specific strokes to break down scar tissue and adhesions. This process helps to:
Improve range of motion: By releasing restricted soft tissues, the technique helps restore natural movement.
Reduce pain: Addressing the root cause of the discomfort, such as scar tissue, can significantly alleviate chronic pain.
Accelerate recovery: It promotes a better healing environment for injured tissues, which can speed up the rehabilitation process.
The Graston Technique is an evidence-based approach used to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, from neck and back pain to rotator cuff injuries and plantar fasciitis.
It was a privilege to guide these professionals through the course's comprehensive curriculum, which included an in-depth look at the scientific basis of the technique, proper instrument handling, and hands-on practice sessions. This group's enthusiasm for learning and their commitment to providing the best care for their patients was truly inspiring.
Here is a picture of the fantastic group!
