What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a manual (hands-on) type of therapy that utilizes the interrelationship between structure and function of the body. Founded by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still in the late 1800’s, osteopathy is based upon the principles of natural law, stating that all natural materials (our bodies included) are governed by their structure.
The goal of an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner (OMP) is to balance the lines of tension affecting the structural framework of the body. By doing so, the pathways within which our nerves, arteries, veins, and lymphatic vessels travel can be freed. Once treatment is applied, the body begins to integrate the changes made and communication within and between bodily systems is readjusted back to normal conditions. This allows the body to self-heal & self-regulate, two terms that determine the basis of an osteopathic treatment.
Osteopathic treatment combines philosophy, creativity, and science into an art form that addresses the root cause of dysfunction.
Treatment may include treatment on the fascial, muscular and ligamentous layers and is generally pain free, calming to the body, and can be beneficial to people of all ages – from infancy to the elderly.
